Good morning New Bedford! It feels like summer is in the rear view mirror with school and football starting, and we promise we’re not trying to skip ahead to winter coats and hot chocolate just yet … BUT 🎄 the City is on the lookout for a tree to display on the front steps of the Downtown library this holiday season. A 30-foot Balsam fir is ideal, but we're open other species, or trees that aren’t quite that height. The tree does need to have a point on top for a star. And the great folks at the Department of Public Infrastructure will remove it from your property if needed. Anyone who has a tree for consideration should contact the Mayor’s Office at (508) 979-1410. Thanks all!

Our Elections Office is expanding one of its most popular outreach programs as the State Election approaches in November.

New Bedford students will once again have the opportunity to redesign the iconic “I Voted” sticker that’s handed out at polling locations. The six winning designs will be featured on stickers across the City at the polls in November, and one overall winner will be chosen to have their design highlight a voting reminder appearing on the billboard at I-195 and Route 18.

The winning designs will also be featured on yard signs reminding people to vote, and the classroom ($500) and school/organization ($1,000) that hands out the most yard signs will win $500 or $1,000 in school supplies.

Students can design their stickers on the sheet in this post and send a picture of it to the Elections Office. Details are in the flyers. For more information, contact the Elections Office at 508-979-1420 or via email at [email protected].

Taxpayers in Dartmouth and New Bedford currently save more than $3 million annually in municipal waste disposal costs through use of the Crapo Hill Landfill. The facility managed by the Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District helps New Bedford and Dartmouth avoid expensive, long-distance transportation costs for hauling waste to out-of-area facilities. The District has proposed a construction project for a new disposal cell that would extend the landfill's capacity - and the lower costs - for several years.
