Let us not forget.

On June 17, 2015, nine Black worshippers were murdered while attending Bible study at Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina. What should have been a sacred space of faith, fellowship, and peace became the site of one of the deadliest acts of racial violence in modern American history.

Today, we honor the lives lost, remember the resilience of their families and community, and reflect on the ongoing fight against hatred, racism, and violence.

May we never forget the Emanuel Nine:
Rev. Clementa Pinckney, Cynthia Hurd, Susie Jackson, Ethel Lance, Depayne Middleton-Doctor, Tywanza Sanders, Daniel Simmons Sr., Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, and Myra Thompson.
