We’re incredibly thankful to everyone who came out to hold signs and help get out the vote during Tuesday’s preliminary election.

At just 5.77%, voter turnout was the lowest in New Bedford’s history and that’s deeply disappointing. Too many voices were missing from this election, and our city deserves better participation in the decisions that shape our future.

But we know New Bedford. When it matters most, our community shows up. With your help, we can make sure more residents are heard loud and clear on November 4th.

Yesterday, we joined Ms. Noriega’s 4th grade class at Lincoln Elementary School to host the 4th Annual Burgo Box Challenge.

City Council President Shane Burgo was very impressed with all the students. Congratulations to Team 4 for coming in 1st place!

Council President Shane Burgo delivered the keynote address at the 36th Annual NAACP Freedom Fund Breakfast, reminding us that DEI isn’t new. It’s the legacy we’ve inherited.

Long before it was an acronym, our communities were living it, fighting for it, and building a better world because of it.

“We may feel set back, but we will not be set back.”

Thank you to the New Bedford NAACP for the honor, and to all who continue to hold on, forge on, and refuse to let DEI die.
