***Reminder of the Town's Floodplain Ordinance***

NEW AUGUSTA, MISSISSIPPI
SUMMARY OF FLOODPLAIN ORDINANCE

The Town of New Augusta issues floodplain permits for developments in the incorporated limits of New Augusta. There is no charge for these permits. If development is in a floodplain or floodway, according to current FEMA map, including new housing or new mobile homes, certificates must be provided prior to, during and after construction. The certificates must be completed by a licensed engineer or surveyor. For manufactured homes, tax registration is needed through Perry County Tax Assessor’s Office. Floodplain permits are issued through Town Hall. Any new construction or mobile home must notify Town Hall before building or installation of mobile home. This includes building where there was a previous structure or installing a mobile home where there was a previous mobile home.

*Power outage Notice*
Thursday, March 19, 2026 2pm until 6 pm
Statement from Mississippi Power

Mississippi Power recently identified two utility poles with lightning damage along Hwy 98. These two poles need to be replaced immediately to maintain reliability in the area and to avoid a longer outage for customers. We worked with the company on a time to minimize disruption in the town. Crews will work to replace the damaged poles on Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 2pm until 6 pm. The company understands that there is never a good time for a loss of service and appreciates customers’ patience as they work safely and quickly to resolve this issue.

Deadline: February 27, 2026

The Town is participating in the 2026 March of the Mayors, a canned food drive to benefit Extra Table. New Augusta will be collecting 16 oz jars of peanut butter. Mayor Spicer is asking residents to help with this worthy cause. You may drop off any peanut butter at Town Hall, Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm, between January 30th and February 27th.
