On April 10th the D.A.R.E. Graduation was held at the New Athens Elementary School Gym. There were 33 Graduates. Special thank you to the 5th grade teachers Mrs. Browne and Ms. Berowski and Principal Kennedy. The D.A.R.E. program focuses on alcohol/tobacco facts, resistance strategies, signs of stress, communication styles, responsibly reporting bullying, making safe and responsible choices, responding to peer pressure, evaluating your decisions, and communicating effectively. Congratulations to the Essay Winners and Honorable Mentions.

D.A.R.E. Instructor Chief Tim Buehler has taught over 1,000 students in the past 22 years as the D.A.R.E Instructor in the New Athens School District.

On Monday, April 13 New Athens VFW Post 7710 Commander Billy Tucker presented Sgt. Jake Renner with the 2025-2026 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year ‘Certificate of Recognition’ at the Bullpen Bar and Grill. The honor is recognizing Sgt. Renner’s many narcotic arrests and thorough narcotic investigations conducted during the time period and keeping the Village of New Athens safe in doing so. Congratulations Sgt. Renner and Thank You to the New Athens VFW POST 7710.

On January 22nd at the 33rd Annual SILEC/SIPCA Awards Banquet held at the Regency Conference Center in O’Fallon, Sgt. Jake Renner was presented with the LIFE SAVING AWARD in reference to responding to a house fire with occupants in 2024. CONGRATULATIONS Sgt. Jake Renner and a job well done!
