🚨 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE COMMUNITY SUPPORT NEEDED 🚨

ALLEN, KY September 8, 2026

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at approximately 2:00 AM, the Allen Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Goble Reed Drive in Dwale, Kentucky.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames showing from the structure. Firefighters immediately began operations to contain and extinguish the fire. Unfortunately, the structure was deemed a total loss. Thankfully, no lives were lost.

Allen Volunteer Fire Department received mutual aid from Cow Creek Fire Department, along with assistance from a member of the Prestonsburg Fire Department. We sincerely appreciate everyone who responded and provided assistance during this emergency. Your willingness to answer the call and work together makes a tremendous difference in our community. 🚒❤️

The homeowners have been referred to the American Red Cross for assistance as they begin the difficult process of recovering from this devastating loss.

Unfortunately, firefighters were dispatched back to the residence at approximately 5:55 PM this evening for a rekindle. One Allen Volunteer Fire Department engine responded, and firefighters extinguished the remaining hot spots using firefighting foam.

The family has lost their home and many of their belongings. If you are able to donate anything, no matter how big or small, your generosity could make a tremendous difference for this family.

The following items are currently needed:

👩 Women:
• Medium clothing
• Size 7.5 shoes

👨 Men:
• XL shirts
• 36x32 pants

👧 Girl:
• 18–24 months clothing

👦👦 Twin Boys:
• 3T/4T clothing

🚨 TRAFFIC UPDATE 17:50 PM 🚨

The vehicle accident on Kentucky Route 1428 at the mouth of Sugarloaf has been cleared, and the roadway is now fully reopened to traffic.

The Allen Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank Cowcreek Volunteer Fire Department, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department, and Cowcreek Auto Body & Towing for their quick response and assistance at the scene.

🚨 TRAFFIC ADVISORY VEHICLE ACCIDENT 🚨

Emergency personnel are currently on scene of a motor vehicle accident with reported injuries on Kentucky Route 1428 near the mouth of Sugarloaf.

Motorists traveling through the area are urged to use extreme caution, slow down, and watch for emergency personnel and responding apparatus. Please be prepared for possible traffic delays and, if possible, consider using an alternate route.

We ask everyone to please give our first responders plenty of room to safely work the scene.

🚨 CALL FOR SERVICE — CO₂ ALARM 🚨

Allen Volunteer Fire Department and Cow Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded to a CO₂ alarm on Lowe Drive in Prestonsburg, just off KY-1428.

Upon arrival, units from both departments conducted a thorough check of the residence and surrounding area. After completing their investigation, both Allen FD and Cow Creek FD units advised that everything checked out fine and no hazards were found.

We appreciate the cooperation of the residents and the assistance of our neighboring department.

The Allen Volunteer Fire Department would like to congratulate one of our own, Unit 1206 Jenna Bradley, on being selected as one of the newest part-time employees with the Prestonsburg Fire Department!

Jenna is already serving our communities as an EMT and is continuing her journey toward becoming a certified firefighter. We are proud of her dedication, hard work, and commitment to serving others.
