Plain Township Government Located northeast of Columbus, Ohio in Franklin County, Plain Township is home to 13,000 residents, including the City of New Albany.

Originally settled in 1810, Plain Township is home to rolling farm fields, thriving businesses, quiet neighborhoods, great parks a

nd schools, as well as some of the friendliest people you'll meet. Plain Township is governed by three elected Trustees who oversee all Township functions and services. The Township Administrator is selected by the Trustees and oversees the day to day business of the township government. The Township Fiscal Officer is responsible for all township finances and transactions.

John Clouse served in the Revolutionary War under Captain John Reynolds’ company – the “Flying Camp” – in the Maryland Militia. He was born in 1758 in Amsterdam, Holland, and as a boy, he made his way to America as a stowaway on a ship. Upon arriving, he was sold for his passage. When the war broke out, he was offered his freedom if he would serve in the army. He earned his freedom through military service and was honorably discharged. He brought his family to Ohio in 1805 and settled in Plain Township in 1814.

On June 23 and 25, Plain Township will perform maintenance on driveways and parking lots at Maplewood Cemetery, weather permitting. Sections of the cemetery will be closed to vehicles by work area on those dates.

Curious about Plain Township's connection to the Revolutionary War? All of Plain Township was part of the Military District of Ohio, which provided land warrants to Revolutionary War veterans to settle the area. It's one of the reasons we saw an increase in Revolutionary War veterans arriving after the war.
