MS residents will get new license plates in 2024. For the 1st time ever collector offices will have 2 tags available …the magnolia tag and the standard blackout tag (which is an additional $38.25).
The MAIL FEE for tags has increased. Union County residents please pay attention to the JANUARY renewal card adjustment note.
The mail fee is removed if you come in the office to renew.

Saw on FB a taxpayer suggested paying taxes with coins only. That can be done but it’s awful to treat your fellow taxpayers with such disrespect. No one wants to come WAIT in line while YOUR money is counted.
The deputy collectors are in the office 8:00-5:00 so us counting money is part of the job. Those waiting in line for the “coin paying” taxpayer are the ones that will suffer.

2022 Union County land tax auction will be Monday, August 28. It will be an online auction held at

I have received several notices of FB posts that are untruths concerning the mandated tax increase due to Union County’s update year and the school bond vote.
If you want correct information regarding your property, I encourage you to contact the Union County Superintendent’s office and/or the tax office. The few posts that I have seen do not understand YOUR taxes only their own assessed value.

2022 Taxes are due ON or before February 1, 2023.
If you are like me and wait until last minute, expect inconveniences...
Expect a long line if paying at the office. Phone lines are busy if you try to pay over phone.
Options---We do honor post marked date if mailed. Drop boxes are located in front or on the handicapped accessible side of the courthouse.
Going to pay late??? A .5% (yes 1/2 percent) monthly penalty begins February 2,2023.
Unpaid taxes will be printed in local paper August 2023.

County offices will still be closed, Friday, February 19. Stay safe and we should be open Monday.
