Halloween for “little Shonna” Growing up back in the woods, life had a rhythm. Payday came, groceries were bought, maybe you got to go to the video store, and then you went home. So Halloween was different. Halloween meant you got to go somewhere. You got out of the house. There were lights, people, costumes, candy, excitement—and for one evening, the ordinary routine changed.

As a child, you probably didn't have words for why that felt so important. You just knew it was a BIG DEAL

And I can see how that childhood feeling connects directly to what we’re trying to create now. Somewhere in Union County there's probably a child living a little ways out, whose family doesn't have extra gas money, whose parents don't have time to drive from neighborhood to neighborhood, or who simply doesn't get many opportunities to go somewhere just for fun.
You get to be part of giving that child a night they'll remember.
And maybe that's the heart of Goodies at the Good Samaritan:
It isn't really about the candy. It's about giving a child somewhere to go. ❤️🎃
A place where it doesn't matter how much money their family has, whether they have the fanciest costume, whether they're comfortable in a crowd, or whether their Halloween looks like everyone else's.
They just get to be a kid.

And I suspect “ little Shonna “would have thought that was a pretty big deal, too.

Casting out a net of need for specifics for the Goodies at the Good Samaritan Event - we have a couple of months so I’m really hoping this is one to remember for the children in our community-

Welp- I was inspired and moved so I am going to share the Christmas “No Troll Left Behind” Campaign- I believe the best and most efficient way to go about this is to make the criteria to “shop at the toy store” before Christmas at the pantry- we will be referencing client eligibility and offering age appropriate - specific child appropriate- gifts based on children accounted for on file- we will have the “Toy Store” open closer to the holiday for each client to pick up their food box for the month along with gifts for their children under the age of 18- we are also giving in a theme when and if at all
Possible which allows us all to know what is needed in donations to make this dream a reality and free up the minds and hearts of the community to focus on what matters and not just food and not disappointing their children- Also, keep in mind that this is a HUGE project for the pantry which is why it is not open to the general public but when you can’t help all- you help some and for now we are keeping it among clients so as much can be given to as much of the community as we can- please understand and still help us be as helpful as we can be 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Hey y’all! How’s it going around town? Well here at the pantry we are blessed and blessing beyond measure- and who plays a big part in that whole thing!?!? YOU! I thought it would help to be more specific with a couple of our immediate needs to meet the needs here at the Samaritan-

(1) I need someone who can come in and sort/ hang clothes- that’s it- just empty bags and boxes possibly with the assistance of someone if it is heavy and just sort and hang- any time between 8 am and 1 pm and I’m almost sure it would not need to be all of those days

(2) HANGERS - we could about use hangers how we can use plastic bags - buy the ton

(3) Pre-packaged gallon bag daily emergency food- the sweet lady over at The Ritz brought these over a few weeks ago and they are genius! You can buy oatmeal (open box and bag one or two )- spaghettios- peanut butter- boxes of crackers (break down a bag each) Small tuna packs- tuna- et cetera and make up a breakfast lunch and dinner bag- example- oatmeal- tuna can(pop top or pack) a row of crackers- peanut butter- ravioli can- ✅ Done - next week we’re going to bag up some of the already donated foods as this is a great grab and go for individuals needing emergency food- distributed two emergency boxes Thursday and technically we were “ not open to the public” getting the familiar scenario- women move- with children- for an array of reasons- just trying to get/stay above water - having to make tough calculated decisions with an empty stomach and little mouths to feed can’t be a feeling we want anyone to have so let’s keep on donating what we can and where we can-

I also wanted to use this to clarify that we get more emergency boxes out of community donations than homeless so they are able to take Mac and cheese and things of that nature to cook-

Anyway- there are some specifics so we all know how we can help- also- like- share- pray- 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
