🏠 Understanding Housing Assistance: It's More Than Just "Section 8"

At the New Albany Housing Authority, we administer several different housing assistance programs, each designed to meet a specific community need.
πŸ”Ή Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV)
The most common voucher program. Families rent privately owned homes or apartments, pay a portion of the rent, and the voucher helps cover the rest.
πŸ”Ή Project-Based Vouchers (PBV)
These vouchers are tied to specific apartments rather than a family. If a resident moves, the assistance stays with the unit, helping preserve affordable housing opportunities for future residents.
πŸ”Ή Tenant Protection Vouchers (TPV)
These vouchers help families remain housed when affordable housing is lost due to demolition, redevelopment, natural disasters, or other circumstances beyond a resident's control.

πŸ“Š Here's what our current voucher portfolio looks like:
β€’ 407 Housing Choice Vouchers
β€’ 334 Project-Based Vouchers
β€’ 17 Tenant Protection Vouchers

While each program works differently, the goal is the same: helping local families, seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities access safe, stable housing while creating pathways to greater self-sufficiency and, in many cases, homeownership.

πŸ’™ STEP Up Jobs Plus is here to help residents move forward; at work, at home, and everywhere in between.

Meet Taylor! πŸ‘‹
Taylor works part-time at Grant Line Nursery and recently found herself needing a little extra support to get caught up on laundry for her family. Through STEP Up Jobs Plus, we were able to help, ensuring she and her family will have clean clothes and one less thing to worry about.

Sometimes success isn't just about finding a job, it's about overcoming the everyday challenges that can stand in the way of stability and self-sufficiency.

STEP Up Jobs Plus offers support with:
βœ… Employment and career coaching
βœ… Job training and skill development
βœ… Financial empowerment services
βœ… Connections to community resources
βœ… Barrier removal assistance that helps residents stay on track

We're proud to stand beside residents like Taylor as they work toward their goals, because everyone deserves the opportunity to succeed. πŸ’ͺ✨

Today, we remember Koran Bethel, a young member of our community whose life touched many in his 12 years.
Our hearts are with his family, friends, neighbors, and all those who loved him during this incredibly difficult time. May they find comfort in the memories they shared and strength in the support of those around them.
Rest peacefully, Koran . You will be missed. ❀️

Koran "King" Bethel, 12, died in Saturday's Jackson County crash while his mother remains on life support with serious injuries. The New Albany neighborhood where he lived has fallen silent since the tragedy.
