We encourage all interested citizens and all appropriate media outlets and civic organizations to participate in this non-partisan voter registration awareness campaign to encourage the maximum participation of qualified voters in Iowa! 🩵❤️

We asked Board Member, Elizabeth Waage, about her time serving on the ASSET Board. "I wanted to be part of ASSET because I wanted a way to make a bigger impact on my community, and being on this board has definitely allowed me to do that. There are so many things in all of our Story County Communities that are accomplished through community members volunteering their time. There are also many opportunities to choose from, to give your time to. Being on a board for Story County makes me feel like a more productive member of the community, and I get to hang out with like-minded individuals as well!”

The Board of Supervisors recognize September 2026 as Su***de Awareness and Prevention Month in Story County. More than 48,000 people died by su***de across the United States in each year, with an average of 132 su***des completed daily. We encourage all residents to take the time to understand the importance of mental health education and recognize that taking care of ourselves and others includes taking care of mental health. 💚

Thank you to Roxanne Petersen and Jensyn Hall with NAMI Central Iowa for attending today to accept the proclamation. Roxanne shared a quote that I think we all can think about - "Hope starts with conversation, and every conversation has the potential to save a life."

The Board of Supervisors recognized August 31, 2026, as International Overdose Awareness Day to raise awareness about the risks of drug overdose; promote life-saving tools to reduce overdose deaths; honor loved ones lost to overdose; and acknowledge the grief felt by families, friends, and communities around the world. Story County is calling on all communities, the state and the country to support overdose prevention policies and projects and to work together to end the stigma and silence surrounding substance use and overdose. 💜

The Board of Supervisors recognize September as National Recovery Month in Story County. Mental health and substance use disorders affect all communities nationwide and with commitment and support, those impacted can embark on a journey of improved health and overall wellness. The focus of Recovery Month each September is to celebrate all people that make the journey of recovery possible by embracing the tagline, “Recovery is For Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community.”
