Over the past month we have joined a newly formed wild land task force consisting of Hays Fire, Great Bend Fire, and Larned fire, contracted from the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office. On May 14th at approximately 4:45 pm we received a call and got put on standby. At approximately 6:00 pm the task force was activated. We sent 1 quick attack brush truck from the Ness City station and met with Larned fire in Jetmore. From there we traveled to Ford County Fire and EMS Station 1 to check in. From there we were deployed on our first assignment in Clarke County north of Ashland. After a few hours we had a change in deployment and our task force got sent to Meade county. Our brush truck was out of station approximately 64 hours assisting with the wild fires. We had 3 groups of 2 Firefighters working approximately 16 hour shifts and 1 of the 3 groups ran 2 shifts. We got the opportunity to work with multiple agency’s from the great state of Kansas. At approximately 11:20 am May 17th our brush truck arrived back to its home station in Ness City, the truck was cleaned, inspected for any issues and promptly put back in service on call. This Friday is our second 'First Friday' at Sheepdog where we give back to the Sheepdogs of Society.

This month, we’re giving back to the Sheepdogs of Ness County Fire District #1 FRA (Fireman's Relief Assn.,) a retirement fund that helps take care of our local volunteer firefighters after a lifetime of serving us.

We actually got the idea for 'First Fridays' from watching this crew. They’re always out in the community... not just fighting fires, but showing up in all kinds of ways to help people... and then on top of that, they’re the ones putting on fundraisers throughout the year just to keep things going.

How lucky are we to have such an incredible group of volunteer firefighters?! They provide the safety we don’t think about—until the day we need it most. From all of us at Sheepdog, we’re so incredibly grateful for everything you do.

A portion of all proceeds this Friday will go toward helping them out. So come raise a glass with us, say thank you to those who serve, and let’s show up for the people who always show up for us!

After the parade we will be at the fairgrounds spraying some water. Come and cool off!
