Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation Welcome to the official page of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation

About Us

Before being moved to the Colville Reservation the traditional territories of the Colville Tribes extended across eastern Washington and into portions of British Columbia, Oregon, and Idaho. This expanse covered approximately 39 million acres as the homeland of the Lakes, Colville, Okanogan, Moses-Columbia, Wenatchi, Entiat, Chelan, Methow, Nespelem, Sanpoil, Chief Joseph Band of Nez Per

ce, and Palus Indians. The Colville Reservation was established by Executive Order in 1872 and was set aside for the 12 constituent tribes that make up Colville's confederacy. The reservation encompasses approximately 1.4 million acres in North Central Washington. (https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/bb31cd48d0284fa59d6f454cafabe962)

Today, the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation consist of over 9,200 tribal members and are governed by the Colville Business Council (https://www.colvilletribes.com/get-to-know-your-council), from its administrative headquarters located in Nespelem, Washington. The Colville Business Council oversees a diverse, multi-million dollar tribal government that employs 1,200-1,500 individuals in permanent, part-time, and seasonal positions and provides services to our membership and local communities.

At Tuesday evening's City Council meeting (6/9/26), Mayor Swartz issued a proclamation shining a light in the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in Washington State.

The murder rate for Native women is more than 10 times the national average in some areas of Washington state, three times higher than the state average, and four times higher for Native females from birth through age 19, with murder as the third leading cause of death for Native women. In addition, the missing rate for Native people is nearly three times higher than the state missing rate average in Washington.

Karen Condon, the Vice Chair of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, was present to receive the proclamation.

What a great day of learning! Yesterday, several Colville Tribal and BIA Natural Resources programs, along with other natural resource partners, came together to host a Natural Resources Field Day for local students.

Students rotated through hands-on learning stations where they explored topics such as wildlife, fisheries, forestry, and environmental stewardship while connecting with the natural resources that are so important to our region.

Thank you to all of the programs, staff, and volunteers who helped make this fun and educational event possible!
