Today is the 25th anniversary of the tragic attacks that occurred on September 11th, 2001 in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. All those years ago today, our nation was in the midst of a devastating attack that claimed the lives of 2,977 citizens. These were fathers and sons, mothers and daughters who had simply reported for work or hopped on a flight like they would on any other morning. That day, one of the worst days in American history, was followed by some of the best days in American history. Out of the destruction, our nation united as one in support of the victims and the first responders who bravely charged toward danger on that day and in the days that followed.

On this solemn day of remembrance, Neptune OEM joined alongside Neptune Township leaders, public safety agencies, and members of the public in Gables Park to honor those lives that were lost during and after the attacks, as well as all those first responders who bravely worked to save lives. We would like to recognize the members of the Neptune Township Office of Emergency Management and Neptune Township EMS who worked to save lives at Ground Zero in the days following the attacks: Michael Bascom, Brian Brown, Molly Berkowitz (dec.), Donald Colarusso, Joseph Dennis (dec.), Michael DiLeo, Vito Gadaleta, Joseph Milano, Louis Rochelle Sr. (dec.), Bil Rosen (dec.), Kenny Sprague, Megan Tackney-Policastro, and Robert Ware.

Today (Tuesday) after 4:00PM, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across NJ. Isolated strong storms will bring the potential for damaging winds, heavy rain, and an elevated chance for the development of tornadoes. The main hazards will be the potential for flash flooding due to periods of heavy rain, as well as gusty winds. Please monitor your local weather forecast closely, especially if you are planning outdoor activities. Most importantly, if flash flooding does occur, DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH FLOODED ROADS.

Ensure you have a reliable method of receiving weather notifications from the National Weather Service. Residents are encouraged to sign up to receive alerts specific to Neptune Township, including current NWS warnings, by texting “neptunealert” to 888777. If you lose power, report it directly to JCP&L. If you observe an emergency such as a downed power line or a tree blocking a road, call 911.
