The Neptune Township Office of Emergency Management is proud to announce that we will be utilizing the Everbridge Nixle community notification system to keep our residents and visitors safe and well-informed. Neptune Township Office of Emergency Management, Neptune Township Police Department and Neptune Township will utilize Nixle to issue NWS weather alerts, road closures, and other critical emergency notifications.

Quick Guide:
-To receive text message alerts, simply text “NEPTUNEALERT” to 888-777.
-We strongly encourage you to sign up for alerts from Neptune Township by also texting “NEPTUNETWP” to 888-777.
-To receive email alerts and customize your agencies and alert settings, sign up here using the online portal: https://local.nixle.com/register/

Nixle will replace the previous reverse 911 notification system and will provide greatly expanded capabilities than we have had in the past. This system does not require you to download a mobile app of any kind to receive alerts, and will only contact you via phone or email, which allows you to customize the notification settings on your mobile phone to your liking. We encourage users to save the Nixle number “888-777” as a contact and change the notification sound to something different from other text messages, so you know when an important alert has been issued.

Users will not be inundated with alerts, as Nixle only sends phone calls, text messages, and emails for incidents fitting the “Alert” or “Advisory” categories (critical incidents, emergency road closures, imminent weather alerts, etc). If you’re receiving alerts from agencies you did not sign up for, simply reply “STOP” to 888-777 immediately after you receive an alert from the agency you’d like to cancel. Replying with “STOP” only cancels the most recent agency you’ve been sent a message by. If you’d like to receive “Community” text message notifications from Neptune Township such as events, public works notifications, and other similar non-emergency alerts, sign up by first texting “NEPTUNETWP” followed by “NTCOMMUNITY” to 888-777. If you’d like to receive community alerts via email, you must sign up using the online portal. If you have more questions, check out http://www.nixle.com/resident-faqs/.

Winter Weather Ahead

We're currently monitoring two winter storms set to impact New Jersey over the next few days. The first is expected to bring a mixture of snow and rain across the state beginning on Thursday night and continuing into Friday morning. Neptune is not expected to see any significant snow accumulation, but cold temperatures combined with any kind of precipitation can cause for hazardous driving conditions. Residents are encouraged to prepare their vehicles for winter weather and ensure you have salt and shovels handy in the event that we get more snow than currently forecasted. Those commuting into Northern NJ or NYC on Friday morning should prepare for a slow and hazardous drive.

Continue to monitor Neptune Township Office of Emergency Management on Facebook and Twitter for updates on this storm as necessary, and the second round of winter weather expected for Saturday and Sunday.

Seventeen years ago today, our nation was in the aftermath of a devastating attack which claimed the lives of 2,977 citizens. These were fathers and sons, mothers and daughters who had simply reported for work like they would on any other Tuesday morning. That day, one of the worst days in American history, was followed by some of the best days in American history. Out of the destruction, our nation united as one in support of the victims and the first responders who bravely charged towards danger on that day and in the days that followed.

On this solemn day of remembrance, we would like to recognize the Neptune OEM - Office of Emergency Management and Neptune Township EMS responders who worked to save lives at Ground Zero in the days following the attacks: Michael Bascom, Brian Brown, Molly Berkowitz (deceased), Donald Colarusso, Joseph Dennis (deceased), Michael DiLeo, Vito Gadaleta, Joseph Milano, Louis Rochelle Sr., Bil Rosen, Megan Tackney-Policastro, and Robert Ware.

Toby Wednesday 6PM Update

Snowfall continues in Neptune, with most roads completely covered. Visibility has been greatly reduced due to the heavy snow and gusty winds. Snowfall is expected to continue, rates up to an inch per hour, throughout the night before tapering off by morning. Current forecasted totals for our area are 6-8 inches. Also, be aware of likely tidal flooding on Concourse and South Riverside during the high tide cycle at 1130PM tonight.

Snow parking regulations are in effect, which means Ocean Grove no parking where indicated by signs and the rest of the township, no parking on even-numbered sides of the street. Neptune Township Police Department are ticketing and towing vehicles in violation, so please ensure your vehicle is properly parked. Neptune Township Code Enforcement would like to remind residents with sidewalks that all snow and ice must be removed within 12 hours of daylight after the snowfall stops.

This is a heavy, wet snow and as such we urge caution when clearing your property. Take frequent breaks and check on your neighbors, we don't want to see anyone getting hurt while shoveling.
