If someone in your life is going through the NICU journey right now, remember: be there without pressure. Listen, respect their needs, and let them know they don't have to go through it alone.

Don't know a NICU family personally? You can still show up for one. 💚

Visit https://www.projectsweetpeas.com/ to donate $25 to our Food & Fuel Fund, which helps cover everyday essentials like gas, meals, and parking, making it a little easier for NICU families to be there for their babies.

The world feels sick right now.

Every week it seems like there’s another outbreak. Another recall. Another illness making the rounds. Another reason for parents to wonder how the hell we protect these tiny humans.

And meanwhile, the human body has been quietly doing something extraordinary for thousands of years.

We make milk that is alive.

Breast milk isn't just calories.

It contains antibodies. Immune cells. Lactoferrin. Human milk oligosaccharides. Enzymes. Beneficial bacteria. An entire biological system researchers are STILL trying to fully understand.

Think about how absolutely wild that is.

Before laboratories.
Before factories.
Before modern medicine.

The human body was already producing something designed to nourish a baby while also supporting their developing immune system and gut microbiome.

That doesn't mean breast milk makes a child invincible. It doesn't replace vaccines, medical care, sanitation, or treatment when they're needed.

It means breastfeeding deserves to be taken seriously as public health.

Because when sickness is circulating, breastfeeding doesn't suddenly become less important.

It becomes one more incredible layer of protection and support that a mother's body can provide.

And THAT is where I feel the calling more than ever.

Protect breastfeeding.
Teach breastfeeding.
Support the mother who is struggling.
Stop making her fight for a place to feed her baby.
Stop treating human milk like it's "just food."

Because the more science learns about breast milk, the clearer one thing becomes:

We still haven't discovered everything this stuff can do.

And if that doesn't make you stop and appreciate the absolute POWER of the human body, I don't know what will.

I’ve nursed 6 babies and only got one point because I never ate a lactation cookie. 🍪

I’m pretty sure they hadn’t even been invented back when my babies were born in the ‘70s-‘80s-‘90s. 🤷‍♀️
