Contractor help needed

RVF is looking for a local contractor, carpenter, roofer, or skilled handyman to repair the damaged roof on one of our public trail kiosks.

The roof has torn and missing shingles, visible weather damage, and possible damage to the underlying wood structure. We need someone who can assess the kiosk, recommend the right repair, provide an estimate, and complete a durable outdoor fix.

This is a small but important project that helps keep our trails safe, welcoming, and useful for the public.

Interested or know someone local who may be a good fit? Please comment, share, DM, or contact Garrett Souliere at [email protected] to arrange a site visit or referral.

Thank you all for helping RVF care for the Rockfish Valley Trails!

The Rockfish Valley was in the spotlight today!

Thank you to 29News for featuring RVF President Peter Agelasto IV in a Community Conversation about our trails, Natural History Center, environmental education work, and the growing impact of ENLIT.

RVF exists because this community believes in protecting beautiful places, creating outdoor learning opportunities, and keeping the Rockfish Valley open, welcoming, and alive with discovery.

Thank you ALL for making this work possible!

Look up tonight! May ends the way it began — with a full moon! This month’s second full moon makes it a rare Blue Moon. The Moon won’t actually appear blue, but it will appear full for about a day before and after peak illumination.

This Blue Moon - funny enough - is also a micromoon, meaning the Moon is farther from Earth than usual. Sometimes we're in awe of the things that make us feel so small in this amazing world!

EVENT UPDATE: Gardening for Birds

Our Gardening for Birds workshop scheduled for Sunday, May 31 has been canceled.

We’re grateful for the interest in this program and look forward to revisiting the workshop this fall, when we can give it the planning, promotion, and seasonal timing it deserves.

Thank you for understanding — and stay tuned for a stronger fall offering focused on bird-friendly gardening, native plants, and creating welcoming habitat at home.

Holiday Weekend Update!

The Natural History Center will be closed this holiday weekend — and we’re wishing our Deputy Director, Garrett Souliere, a wonderful family trip!

We’re also looking for a few more community stewards to help us keep the Center open and welcoming throughout the season.

Our visitor desk docent role is flexible, rewarding, and simple to learn. Volunteers help greet guests, answer basic questions, and serve as a friendly presence at the Center. Weekend shifts are typically 12–4 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

Love local nature, community, and the Rockfish Valley? We’d love to have you at the desk.

Email [email protected] to get involved.
