Wildfire season is beginning to slow down, but it’s not quite over yet. Throughout the summer, we’ve recognized our crews for the hard work they’ve put in during deployments, as well as the Oregon State Fire Marshal for giving us the opportunity to help communities beyond our own.

But there’s one more thank-you that deserves to be said: thank you to our community.

We know these deployments put an added strain on the people back home, but the encouragement and support you’ve shown our crews throughout the summer has meant more than you probably realize. From all of us at Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue, thank you for standing behind our firefighters and supporting us as we work to serve wherever we’re needed.

Some people join the fire service and take their time finding their place. Peter McClure jumped right in.

After completing his fire academy, Peter went straight into EMT-B training, earning his NREMT-B certification and continuing to build on his skills as a firefighter. He's also part of our water rescue and rope rescue teams, and when he's not at the station, he's busy running his own window washing business here in Manzanita. His curiosity and willingness to learn are hard to miss, Peter is always asking questions, looking for ways to improve, and soaking up whatever knowledge he can.

In 2024, Peter was recognized as our Rookie of the Year, but what stands out just as much as his accomplishments is the person behind them. He's one of the kindest people you'll meet, always ready with a good sense of humor and a helping hand. Peter, thank you for bringing your curiosity, good nature, and dedication to Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue. We're glad you're part of our team and our family.

Another Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue crew has headed out to the Grasshopper 2 Fire as part of Task Force 58 requested by . With wildfire season underway and crews across the region staying busy, we’re proud to have our members representing NBFR and supporting fire operations. Work hard, stay safe, and we’ll see you home soon!
