We want to make you aware of an ongoing scam that our residents have encountered where callers pretend to be police officers, deputies, court officials, or federal agents. They may say you:
Missed jury duty
Missed a court date
Have a warrant for your arrest
Failed to pay a fine
Need to verify personal information
Scammers often use:
*Spoofed phone numbers that appear to be from a real police department or courthouse
*Real names of officers or judges
*Aggressive threats to pressure victims into acting quickly
They may demand payment through:
Gift cards
Cash App / Venmo / Zelle
Bitcoin or cryptocurrency
Wire transfers
“Bond” payments over the phone
⚠️ Important:
Real law enforcement agencies and courts do NOT call demanding immediate payment to avoid arrest. Officers will NOT ask for gift cards, crypto, or payment apps.
What to do if you receive one of these calls:
✅ Hang up immediately
✅ Do not provide personal or banking information
✅ Do not send money
✅ Verify directly with your local court or law enforcement agency using an official phone number
Please contact our department if you have any further questions or need any further assistance.
