The Fort Mojave Indian Tribe is proud to share that Tribal Administrator Ashley Hemmers was recently featured on Vegas PBS's Nevada Week during a special discussion, "America at 250: The Indigenous Perspective."

Ashley joined tribal leaders from across the region to talk about the importance of Indigenous history, culture, and the connection Native people continue to have with their ancestral homelands. Her message was a reminder that Indigenous history spans thousands of years and remains an important part of the story of this country.

Ashley continues to be a thoughtful leader for the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe, helping bring greater awareness to the Tribe's history, culture, and future. Opportunities like this help others better understand the experiences and perspectives of Native communities.

Take a few minutes to watch the conversation and hear Ashley's perspective.

The U.S. Department of the Interior has extended a tribal self-governance program that allows participating tribes to assume greater authority over trust assets and certain land management decisions, Tribal Business News reports.

The Indian Trust Asset Reform Act (ITARA) Demonstration Project was set to expire this month. The extension keeps the authority in place through 2036.

Why this matters:

— The program was created to give tribes more control over trust asset management
— Only three tribes have secured approved management plans since Congress established the authority in 2016
— Tribal leaders have argued that implementation challenges, narrow federal interpretations and lack of funding have limited participation

The extension preserves an important self-governance tool.

But it also highlights a broader question facing federal Indian policy:

Why do some tribal self-governance authorities gain traction while others remain difficult to use?

On June 18, 1934, the Indian Reorganization Act ended the allotment era, ensuring tribal lands remained protected and empowering tribal nations to govern themselves. The act provided a pathway for tribes to establish their own constitutions and charters, strengthening sovereignty and community. 🪶

Henderson officials are considering a temporary pause on new data center applications to evaluate the facilities' high demand for water and electricity, as well as concerns regarding heat and neighborhood impacts.

The moratorium would give the city time to develop updated regulations before approving future projects.

To All County Auditor-Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector this is the personal opinion on behalf of many of our clients!
Hypothetically…….. They’re being taxed on money they never made. Let that sink in.
If they bought their property outright for $250000 in 2016
Now the county says it’s worth $400000
Did they sell it? No.
Did they make a profit? No.
Did you hey get a check for $246,000? No.
But their taxes jumped like they did.
That’s the problem.
This isn’t income.
This isn’t cash.
This is a number someone decided on paper — and now they’re being billed for it.
If their stock portfolio doubles, They don’t pay taxes until they sell.
If their income doesn’t increase, they don’t magically owe more income tax.
So why does owning a home work differently?
Why are they being taxed on unrealized gains?
A house isn’t just an investment — it’s where people live. And this system means you can do everything right, pay off your home, and still get squeezed harder every year because of a number you never turned into money.
You don’t truly own something if you can be taxed out of it.
This isn’t about “services” or “inflation.”
It’s about being charged for value you never received.
And people are starting to notice.
This needs to stop. So many elderly people lose their homes and property they spent a life time paying for over taxes we shouldn't have to keep paying.
