There’s still time to register for one or more days of camp at NNWR! On August 22, for Arachnid Adventures, we’ll learn about how to take care of spiders as pets, all about the spider power of walking up walls, and about what all animals need to survive. We can’t wait to explore with our campers and their grownups! 🕷️🕸️😊

The International Crane Foundation's whooping crane library programs continue this week in Jefferson Davis Parish, one of the most highly used parishes by Louisiana's whooping cranes! We hope you'll be able to make it to one of these programs to learn about Louisiana's whooping cranes and the wetland habitat they depend on! In Jefferson Davis Parish the cranes mostly use agricultural property - rice and crawfish fields, often referred to as working wetlands!

This week programs will be held at 4 of the Jefferson Davis Parish Libraries branches. On Wednesday, the 10th, programs will take place at the Lake Arthur branch at 10 AM and at the Strand Theatre in Jennings at 2 PM. On Thursday, the 11th, programs will be held at the Welsh branch at 10 AM and the Elton branch at 2 PM.

Attention Avoyelles Parish folks, Monday, June 8th, the International Crane Foundation will be at the 5th Ward Library in Marksville from 10-11 AM with their Whooping Crane Wonders program. Come learn all about this special, endangered species that is returning to Louisiana!

Although there aren't a large number of cranes that live in Avoyelles Parish, there is a breeding pair who has been there since 2014 and who are currently raising a chick. This pair has successfully raised 4 previous chicks and as those chicks have become independent some of them continue to spend time in the parish so we could eventually have more pairs establishing their territories here.
