In case you were wondering why we're holding our speaker events at the St Luke's UCC in Belfast, we of course have a historical explanation!
The Henry family noticed the need for a nearby church due to the increase of industry in the local area, as the nearest church was over 3 miles away. While the Moravian Church did not have the resources to assist, the Henrys acquired funding by several individuals including J. Joseph Henry, Matthew Henry, and William Henry III. The church was used by different denominations for meetings and worship.
The church has a very unique history beyond the Henry family involvement, so we are very grateful for the resources we received regarding this history.

It becomes all the more special that we get to host our special speaker events such as General Washington's presentation this past weekend, and our upcoming Centennial President Grant on October 10th.

Check out this informative post with some local Henry history!

On this , we share a Cast Iron Stove made at the Catherine Furnace, Jacobsburg, Pennsylvania. This large 4-plate stove has a wide elliptical loading shelf and leaf/branch design with a raised small diamond border.

In 1824, Matthew Henry erected the Catherine Furnace at Jacobsburg and began the manufacture of stove castings.

Matthew S. Henry was born in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, on August 10, 1790, and died on January 20, 1862. He was a son of William and Sabina (Schropp) Henry. Matthew Henry's father, William Henry II, erected a musket factory at Jacobsburg in 1798, and in 1808 he erected a forge there for the manufacture of bar iron. In 1815, Matthew acquired these properties from his father, who had transferred his interests from Nazareth and Jacobsburg to the Boulton Gun Works which he had erected in 1812-13, about a mile below Jacobsburg on the Bushkill Creek.
