It’s Rural hitch water movement training this week. What’s the Rural hitch method? The fire attack engine arrives on the scene and lays a length of hose and a clappered wye connector at the road/driveway then continues to the fire location. The first tanker hooks onto the wye and pumps its water up the length of hose to the engine. A second tanker arrives and hooks into the other side of the wye and when the first tanker empties, the second tanker takes over. This method just keeps repeating till the fire is out. This is one of three methods we use. The best is hooking to a municipal water system with hydrants. The other would be dropping large portable tanks on the ground and having tankers quickly dump all their water in the tanks and a supply engine sucks out the water and sends it up the hose to the attack engine.
