Navarre Beach Lifeguards Rescue Two Teenagers in Rip Current Incident

Navarre Beach, Florida — March 31st— Lifeguards with Navarre Beach Fire Rescue responded to a water emergency this afternoon, successfully rescuing two teenagers caught in a rip current off Navarre Beach.

At approximately 4:00 PM, lifeguards observed two teenage swimmers in distress, actively calling for help while being pulled by a rip current. 2 lifeguards immediately entered the water and reached the victims, initiating a rescue. Upon arrival, the responding lifeguard supervisor notified dispatch to request additional support, including EMS and fire personnel, to assist with patient care once the swimmers were brought safely to shore.

Both individuals were successfully removed from the water and received prompt medical evaluation.

This incident comes during a particularly busy spring break period, with Navarre Beach Fire Rescue lifeguards conducting multiple rescues throughout the week. Fire Chief Danny Fureigh emphasized that increased beach attendance and hazardous surf conditions significantly raise the risk of rip current incidents.

“We are seeing a high number of water rescues this week,” said Fire Chief Danny Fureigh. “We strongly urge all beachgoers to follow posted safety guidelines.”

Beach visitors are reminded to:
• Always swim near a lifeguard
• Observe and obey the beach flag warning system
• Avoid entering the water during dangerous conditions

Rip currents can be powerful and unpredictable. Lifeguards stress that awareness and prevention are critical to ensuring a safe beach experience.

Navarre Beach Fire Rescue Awarded Grant for State-of-the-Art Rip Current Simulator

Navarre Beach, Florida – Navarre Beach Fire Rescue is proud to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the Florida Department of Children and Families to purchase a Slipstream Real World Rip Current Simulator.

This innovative, state-of-the-art training and education device will allow Navarre Beach Fire Rescue to place participants—including children—in realistic rip current scenarios within a safe and controlled environment. The simulator can be deployed in commercial swimming pools and will provide a unique hands-on opportunity for residents and visitors to learn how rip currents behave and how to respond safely if caught in one.

Rip currents remain one of the leading water safety hazards along coastal communities. By bringing this cutting-edge technology to Santa Rosa County, Navarre Beach Fire Rescue aims to enhance public awareness, strengthen water safety education, and reduce the number of rip current related emergencies.

“This simulator gives us an incredible opportunity to teach people what a rip current actually feels like, without the danger of the open ocean,” said Fire Chief Danny Fureigh from Navarre Beach Fire Rescue. “By educating swimmers in a controlled setting, we can help people understand how to react calmly and safely in a real situation.”

The new simulator will support and expand the capabilities of Navarre Beach Fire Rescue’s highly regarded Lifeguard Division. The department plans to utilize the device for community education programs and water safety demonstrations throughout Santa Rosa County.

Navarre Beach Fire Rescue expressed its sincere gratitude to the Florida Department of Children and Families for supporting this important initiative.

“We are extremely grateful to receive this grant and are excited to bring this life-saving educational tool to pools countywide,” the department stated. “This program will help protect both our residents and the millions of visitors who enjoy our beautiful beaches each year.”
