After 25 years, we continue to mourn our neighbors, friends, and family members who lost their lives to senseless violence.
We continue to mourn the first responders who gave their lives on September 11th and in the years that followed.

We remember the service members who were killed in the line of duty and the struggles of those who returned home. We stand with the first responders who continue to battle illnesses caused by their work during the recovery effort.

Today, with immense gratitude, we remember those who exemplified, and those who continue to exemplify, the very best of America.

God bless America

Twenty-five years ago this morning, I sat with my father watching the news when the second plane struck the World Trade Center. In that moment, any remaining hope that what we were seeing was some terrible accident disappeared, replaced by the realization that our country was under attack, and that we had no idea what might come next.

There is much to reflect on about September 11th, and about the quarter century that followed. Those conversations matter, but today belongs to the 2,977 people whose lives were taken, the families who still carry their loss, and the first responders who ran toward danger when every instinct told everyone else to run away.

Twenty-five years means an entire generation has grown up knowing September 11th only as history. That doesn't make the obligation to remember any less theirs than ours. Memory isn't only about what we personally witnessed; it's about what we choose to carry forward, what we teach those who come after us, and whether the names and lives behind that number remain more than a page in a history book.

Today, we remember them. Tomorrow, we can talk about everything that came after.

Connecticut’s 27th Sales Tax Free Week will take place from Sunday, August 16 to Saturday, August 22, exempting sales tax on items of clothing and footwear costing less than $300 per item. This year’s Sales Tax Free Week has been expanded from previous years, with the upper limit of clothing costs increased from $100 and additional items added to the list of accepted products sold without sales tax. Backpacks and some cleated shoes, like running shoes, are now tax-free during the week. Sales tax free week also applies to online sales taking place during the week itself. Exceptions to Tax Free Week include special clothing and footwear primarily designed for athletic activity or protective use not worn outside of those periods, as well as jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas and other items carried on the body but not worn as clothing. For a full list of items that are and aren’t eligible for Tax Free Week, click here; for frequently asked questions and more information, click here.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Nancy Wyman. I had the privilege of serving with Nancy in the House and working with her during her time as Comptroller. I also had the honor of serving in the Senate during the years she served as Lieutenant Governor.

Nancy dedicated her life to public service and to making Connecticut a better place for working families. I am grateful for the opportunity to have known and worked alongside her. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of calling her a colleague and friend. May she rest in peace.
