Today we were blessed to assist our colleagues from AMR in honoring our friend and brother John “Jay” Lengyel. Jay was a pillar in the EMS community whose dedication, compassion, and leadership helped shape countless lives and careers throughout the years.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to our NEMS family for their support in helping with Jay’s services this afternoon, as well as our partners from Beacon Hose Company, Oxford EMS, Seymour Ambulance Association, and Trinity Health Of New England EMS for providing coverage while we gathered to honor one of our own.

Today was a reminder that the EMS family is more than a profession — it is a brotherhood and sisterhood built on service, sacrifice, and standing beside one another when it matters most.

Serious Injury Crash Under Investigation

The Naugatuck Police Department is investigating a serious injury motor vehicle incident that occurred on June 5, 2026, at approximately 8 am in the area of Andrew Avenue and Manners Avenue.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 44-year-old delivery driver was struck by his own vehicle after exiting it.

The operator was transported to Waterbury Hospital with serious injuries. His condition is currently reported as critical but stable.

The identity of the operator is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Naugatuck Valley Regional Accident Investigation Team has been requested to assist with the investigation. The incident remains under investigation.
