A warm greeting to all our friends and supporters of Hope for the Children of Haiti.
By now, many of you are aware of the tragic events of this past week. After a year of increased violence and instability in Haiti, the president’s home was attacked early in the morning on July 7 and President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated.
We greatly appreciate so many of you reaching out to inquire about the safety of our children and staff. Haiti remains in a state of emergency and we will share updates with you as we receive them. By the grace of God our children and staff are currently safe despite this incredibly challenging time for them. Increased violence has made it very difficult to travel around, and they remain largely sheltering in place at the orphanage. Due to the unstable economy, prices continue to rise and it is becoming increasingly more expensive to meet the daily needs of the orphanage and staff. We are blessed by the generosity of so many of you this past year. Through your faithful support, last week we were able to provide much needed bonuses to each of our teachers and staff in appreciation for their courageous work during this past year, as well as to help them meet their daily needs.
We are very thankful the children were able to finish out the school year last week. Given the current situation, our mission teams won't be traveling to Haiti for yet another summer. We are hoping instead to equip some of our graduates from the first generation to join their younger brothers and sisters later this summer to lead some enrichment activities.
We are deeply saddened that the country we love continues to have so many deep struggles. We remain incredibly grateful for your investment in our children and partnership with us as we work together to provide a safe, loving environment at Hope for the Children of Haiti. Please join us in praying for the violence to decrease, economic and political stability in Haiti, and for the well- being and flourishing of all the people in Haiti.
Grateful for you,
Carrie Tibbles
