Natchez is proud to welcome mayors and community leaders from up and down the Mississippi River as host of the 15th Annual Mississippi River Cities & Towns Initiative (MRCTI) Meeting!

The 2026 meeting moved into its first full day yesterday, bringing leaders from communities along the Mississippi together here in Natchez to share ideas, strengthen partnerships and address some of the most important opportunities and challenges facing the river corridor — from protecting our water resources and planning for new technology and infrastructure to strengthening the economies of the cities and towns that call the Mississippi River home.

And what a way to begin!

Yesterday also brought a major announcement for Natchez and Mississippi River tourism as the City of Natchez and American Cruise Lines broke ground on a major new cruise dock on the Mississippi River — American Cruise Lines’ largest port infrastructure project to date.

The new dock will provide a safer, more accessible and welcoming connection between the Mississippi River and downtown Natchez, while supporting our long-term vision of Natchez becoming a port of embarkation — a place where river cruise passengers can begin and end their journeys.

Combined with the return of commercial air service at the Natchez-Adams County Airport and the planned reopening of the historic Eola Hotel as a Marriott Tribute Portfolio property, this investment represents another important piece of Natchez’s growing transportation and hospitality infrastructure.

We are honored to host our fellow Mississippi River communities in Natchez and proud to have the opportunity to showcase our city, our people and the incredible asset we share in the Mississippi River.

Welcome to Natchez, MRCTI, and thank you, American Cruise Lines!

The City of Natchez is proud to recognize September 13–19, 2026, as Adult Education & Family Literacy Week.

Mayor Dan M. Gibson welcomed representatives of Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Adult Education program to City Hall this week for the signing of an official proclamation recognizing the important role adult education plays in our community.

Adult education and family literacy programs create pathways to opportunity by helping adults strengthen literacy and digital skills, earn high school equivalency diplomas, prepare for college and careers, and build the skills needed for lifelong success.

Joining Mayor Gibson for the proclamation signing were Charlotte Allen, Adult Education Instructor; Sandy Smith, Adult Education Instructor; and Stacy Fells, Adult Education Director.

The City of Natchez extends its appreciation to the educators, volunteers, community colleges, and community partners whose work empowers adult learners, strengthens families, and helps build a stronger workforce.
