🚨 URGENT CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS 🚨

Juvenile Court of Metropolitan Nashville & Davidson County is in need of community volunteers to serve on our Foster Care Review Boards.

These boards review the cases of young people in foster care and help ensure that their safety, permanency, and well-being remain at the center of every decision. Your time and perspective can help provide another caring, attentive voice for youth who need it most.

Board meetings are held Monday through Thursday at Davidson County Juvenile Court, 100 Woodland Street. Morning meetings begin at 9:00 a.m., and afternoon meetings begin at noon. Most meetings last approximately three to four hours.

💚👑 Two Events. One Mission: Serving Nashville’s Youth and Families.

This past weekend, the Juvenile Court of Metropolitan Nashville & Davidson County Community Outreach team was proud to support two meaningful community events happening at the same time in different parts of Nashville.

Anthony Smith represented the Court at the Metro Nashville Public Health Department 3rd Annual Hope Is Available Su***de Prevention Community Event, connecting families with valuable resources while helping raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote mental health and wellness.

Meanwhile, Tangula Nay Wilcox served as a judge for the 2nd annual Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation Teen Pageant, an uplifting event celebrating the confidence, talent, and potential of Nashville’s young people.

Our team may have been in two different places, but our purpose was the same: supporting the well-being, positive development, and bright futures of the children and families throughout our community.

At Juvenile Court, community outreach means showing up—and we are committed to serving wherever we are needed! 💙💛

📚 FREE ACT PREP OPPORTUNITY! 🎓

In an effort to help provide the community with information families can use, the Juvenile Court of Metropolitan Nashville & Davidson County is sharing details about upcoming ACT Prep Strategy Seminars sponsored by the Greater Nashville Alliance of Black School Educators (GNABSE).

These free seminars are designed to help students:

🎯 Develop effective test-taking strategies
💡 Learn helpful tips for selecting the best answers
📈 Strengthen their knowledge and confidence
😌 Manage test-day anxiety

📅 Dates: October 3, 2026, and March 6, 2027
⏰ Time: 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
📍 Location: First Baptist Church Capitol Hill

There is no cost to participate, and the seminars are open to all students preparing to take the ACT.

⚖️🎓 YOUTH COURT IN ACTION! 🎓⚖️

What a WONDERFUL two days of learning, leadership, and collaboration at the Family & Children's Service Honey Alexander Center!

On September 8 and 9, Juvenile Court of Metropolitan Nashville & Davidson County partnered with Metro Nashville Public Schools and the Nashville Defenders Office to prepare students to effectively operate Youth Court programs within their schools.

Ten Metro high schools currently participate in Youth Court, hearing low-level cases referred by Juvenile Court and determining appropriate outcomes. Students serve in every role of the court except the judge, giving them meaningful, hands-on experience with the justice process.

Juvenile Court of Metropolitan Nashville & Davidson County also operates a hybrid Youth Court with students from Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School. These students hear cases at Juvenile Court once each month.

Chief Public Defender Martesha Johnson Moore led the training, working alongside attorneys from the Public Defender’s Office to teach students about:

⚖️ The foundations of Youth Court
⚖️ The principles of restorative justice
⚖️ The responsibilities of each courtroom role
⚖️ How to conduct an entire case from beginning to end

Attorneys from the Nashville Public Defender’s Office worked directly with the students, sharing their knowledge and helping them understand each stage of a Youth Court proceeding.

The seminar opened with a welcome video from Director of Schools, Dr. Adrienne Battle and concluded with Judge Sheila Calloway formally swearing in the students as they took their oath of confidentiality—an important reminder of the trust and responsibility placed in every Youth Court participant.

We are incredibly proud of these young leaders and grateful to our partners for helping them develop the skills to lead with fairness, empathy, accountability, and respect!

🎉💐 43 YEARS OF SERVICE — NOW THAT DESERVES A CELEBRATION! 💐🎉

Our Juvenile Court of Metropolitan Nashville & Davidson County family is sending BIG congratulations to one of our beloved “Court Cousins” in the Office of the Davidson County Juvenile Court Clerk Lonnell Matthews, Jr., Tamarah "Tammy" Daniel, as she begins a very well-earned retirement! ❤️

After an incredible 43 years of dedicated service to Metro Government, Tammy is officially trading deadlines, workdays, and alarm clocks for a brand-new chapter filled with relaxation, adventure, family, friends, and whatever else makes her heart happy! 😎✈️☕🌴

For more than four decades, Tammy has been a familiar and valued presence—serving with professionalism, commitment, kindness, and a spirit of friendship that has touched countless coworkers and members of our community.

Forty-three years is more than a career—it is a legacy of service. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

There are some moments that perfectly capture what partnership looks like—and this is one of them.

Judge Sheila Calloway recently had the privilege of administering the oath of office to the Deputy Clerks of the Office of the Davidson County Juvenile Court Clerk Lonnell Matthews, Jr., surrounded by colleagues, smiles, and a shared commitment to serving the people of Davidson County.

Under the leadership of Juvenile Court Clerk Lonnell Matthews Jr., the Clerk’s Office is an essential partner in the daily work of Juvenile Court. Our two offices may have different responsibilities, but our missions intersect every single day as we work together on behalf of children, families, attorneys, and our community.

That partnership is strengthened by communication, collaboration, mutual respect, and genuine synergy between our teams. Simply put, we do our best work when we do it together.

Judge Calloway and the entire staff of Davidson County Juvenile Court congratulate the newly sworn Deputy Clerks and thank them for answering the call to public service.

🎉 Celebrating 30 Years of Service! 🎉

Judge Sheila Calloway and the staff of Juvenile Court of Metropolitan Nashville & Davidson County are incredibly proud to recognize Mary Ann Smith and Kathy Wilcox for reaching an extraordinary milestone — 30 years of dedicated service! 💙💛

Mary Ann and Kathy were formally recognized for their three decades of public service during a special Metro service awards ceremony, where their awards were presented by Freddie O'Connell, Mayor of Metropolitan Nashville & Davidson County. The event was attended by a number of Metro elected officials, department heads, and other leaders from across Metropolitan Government, making the occasion an especially meaningful celebration of their commitment to public service.

For the past three decades, Mary Ann and Kathy have given their time, talent, experience, and dedication to serving the children, families, and community of Nashville and Davidson County. Their contributions extend far beyond the number of years reflected on a service award. They can be seen in the lives they have touched, the coworkers they have supported, the knowledge they have shared, and the steady presence they have brought to Juvenile Court year after year.

Thirty years is more than a career milestone — it is a legacy of service.
