Yesterday, we served 58 community members at our monthly free lunch at Madison Library.
On the surface, it was a Chicken Taco Bowl Bar.
But if you stayed long enough, you’d realize it was about so much more than food.
People smiled as they built their bowls exactly how they wanted them. They loaded up on cheese, salsa, jalapeños, cilantro, sour cream, chips, and one topping that disappeared quickly—guacamole.
Most people don’t think twice about guacamole.
But when you’re struggling to survive, “extras” become luxuries.
When every dollar is spent trying to make it through another day, things like fresh avocado, favorite toppings, or simply having options are often out of reach.
Today wasn’t just about filling stomachs.
It was about choice.
It was about dignity.
It was about creating a space where someone didn’t have to settle for the bare minimum.
A place where they could enjoy a meal, connect with others, laugh, and simply be part of a community.
These monthly meals are powered by people who may never meet the individuals they impact. Donors, volunteers, and supporters who believe everyone deserves more than survival—they deserve moments of joy too.
Because sometimes hope looks like housing.
Sometimes it looks like a job opportunity.
And sometimes…
Hope looks like being able to add guacamole to your taco bowl without worrying about the cost.
❤️ Help us continue serving meals, building connections, and reminding people they matter.
