A mitzvah from our friends at Congregation Micah

Our guest house received a welcome refresh of spring plantings this past week. Volunteers from Congregation Micah weeded, planted, mulched and tidied up our front yard. They considered their work a “mitzvah,” which in Jewish tradition is a sacred connection and a good deed.

Our visitors love the beautiful flowers and neatly planted garden beds. Thank you, friends! It looks fantastic. From left are Noah Morerro, Nancy Barr, Rebecca Millman, Chuck Barr, Patti Ghertner, and Susan Snyder (who shared her Master Gardener skills). Thank you, all.

When I was growing up, my parents did lots of volunteer work. They didn’t brag about it, they didn’t complain about how busy they were, they didn’t want any recognition. They just did it. They set an example for me and my three sisters as they quietly stepped in to help civic organizations, youth groups, and people in need. I thought about them when I saw that April is National Volunteer Month, and I also thought about the many volunteers who help run the Family Reconciliation Center. We have no paid staff — volunteers keep our guest house clean, make repairs, launder and change linens, cook meals and, most important, make our guests feel welcome and cared for when they come to visit their loved ones in prison. This month we celebrate all those volunteers who give of their time and talent. Spread the joy — thank your favorite volunteers and tell them what a difference they make in the lives of others. - Sheri Sellmeyer

2025 Annual Briefing

Our mission at the Family Reconciliation Center is simple and urgent: Connect friends and families with their loved ones in prison by hosting them in our five-bedroom guest house. In 2025, we found new ways to strengthen those connections. Read more in our 2025 annual briefing.

Thank you, and happy holidays!

Dear friends,

Thanks to your generosity, the Family Reconciliation Center has provided thousands of free room nights over the years to people visiting their loved ones in prison.

These visits to our five-bedroom guest house are crucial for families. Parents can talk to their children. Families are able to attend parole hearings. Grandparents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles and friends can visit inmates who would otherwise be isolated.

Many of you have already given this year, and we are deeply grateful. If you haven’t, consider a gift today using the link below to help us continue connecting families and friends with their loved ones in prison.
