Today, we honor the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard Flight 93. We remember the families forever changed, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the extraordinary courage shown by so many on that tragic day.

Although this day is not a federal holiday, communities across America pause to reflect through moments of silence, commemorative ceremonies, and flag‑lowering tributes. As we mark the 25th anniversary, we stand together in remembrance, unity, and service, ensuring we never forget the lives, legacies, and heroism of that day.

We will always remember. We will never forget.

They not only oversee 13 Benefits Field Offices statewide but also partner with County Service Officers across the state to ensure service members, Veterans, and their families receive the advocacy, assistance, and benefits they have earned.

Our department kicked off Annual Training 2026! For the next three days, Veteran Service Officers from 93 Tennessee counties are coming together to connect, learn, share ideas, and strengthen the support we provide to service members, Veterans, and their families across the Volunteer State.

This is more than a conference, it’s an opportunity to grow, collaborate, sharpen our skills, and build an even stronger network of Veteran advocates.

Together, we’re working to ensure Tennessee’s Veterans and their families receive the passionate advocacy, assistance, and support they’ve earned and deserve.

Our department would like to congratulate George Johnston on completing the Burial Operations Support System (BOSS) and Memorial Benefits Management System (MBMS) Training by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He is an Administrative Assistant at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Pegram, TN.

This specialized training strengthens his skills in case management, ordering headstones and markers, maintaining gravesite data, generating reports, and supporting other essential cemetery operations.

His professional development reflects our department’s commitment to providing accurate, timely, and compassionate service to Tennessee’s Veterans and their eligible dependents.

Congratulations, George, on this outstanding achievement and for continuing to strengthen our department and the services we provide to those who have served!

Recently, our department conducted an interment under the new Guard Reserve Eligibility Expansion Amendment (GREEA), honoring Mr. Gary Hill, a former member of the Tennessee Army National Guard. He was laid to rest with full honors before family, friends, and fellow service members at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads.

Major General Michael “Trent” Scates, with other senior National Guard leaders attended, with the American Legion Post 286 Honor Guard rendering the flag fold.

We honor his service, his commitment to our state, and the legacy he leaves behind. May his sacrifice and dedication never be forgotten.
