On June 14, 1775, the U.S. Army was established, making it the oldest of the six branches of our Armed Forces. For over 250 years, the Army has stood strong in defense of our nation, our freedoms, and our future.

Today, we honor and celebrate all who have worn the uniform, past and present. To every Soldier, Veteran, and their families: thank you for your unwavering service and sacrifice.

Here’s to a legacy of strength, resilience, and dedication!

Today, we want to recognize Flag Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777.

While not a federal holiday, this day is an important opportunity for all of us to honor the history, values, and unity our flag represents. Citizens, businesses, and government agencies are encouraged to proudly display the American flag in recognition of the day.

However you choose to mark the day, Flag Day is a moment to reflect on our shared heritage and honor those who have served under our nation’s flag.

Commissioner Tommy H. Baker was honored to speak at the quarterly VERGE, Veteran Employee Readiness with Gold Employers, the second meeting since the launch of the Tennessee Veteran Ready Business Recognition Program!

This incredible group brings together Gold Level Employers from across the state who are dedicated to strengthening how our businesses and governmental agencies Recruit, Hire, and Retain service members, Veterans, and their families.

They are already driving real impact. From mentoring businesses statewide to sharing best practices and exploring what’s working (and what isn’t) in today’s employment landscape, this group exists to elevate and advance support for the Veteran community.

A huge thank you to Deloitte for graciously hosting the meeting and helping move this important work forward.

Today, we honor the anniversary of D‑Day.

On this day, brave Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in one of history’s most pivotal operations. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve changed the course of World War II and safeguarded the freedoms we cherish today. May we never forget the heroes who fought, those who fell, and those who carried the weight of that day for the rest of their lives.

We remember. We honor. We are grateful.

Our department was proud to participate in the CARES Conference 2026!

Hosted through a partnership between the Tennessee Department of Human Services and Tennessee State University, the conference brought together experts, trainers, and professionals from across the nation to address the growing challenges facing aging and vulnerable adults in the 21st century.

With a focus on preventing neglect, abuse, and exploitation, the conference highlighted strategies to strengthen protection, increase awareness, and enhance support for older and at-risk adults.

It was a powerful day of learning, collaboration, and advocacy as we worked together to promote safety, dignity, and well-being for some of Tennessee’s most vulnerable citizens.
