June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, a time to shine a light on an issue that affects millions but often goes unseen. Elder abuse can take many forms—physical, emotional, financial, or neglect—and the warning signs are not always obvious. Unexplained injuries, sudden changes in finances, or emotional withdrawal can all be indicators that something isn’t right. Abuse often hides in plain sight, and awareness is the first step toward prevention. Learn the signs, speak up, and be part of the solution.
Here are 5 steps you can take to prevent elder abuse:
1) Listen to older adults and caregivers to understand their challenges and provide support.
2) Educate others about the signs of abuse and how to get help.
3) Report suspected abuse or neglect as soon as possible.
4) Build a community that fosters social connections and supports.
5) Reach out to professional services for support where available.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is June 15💜

Supportive communities and resources are essential to engaging older people and preventing abuse. At GNRC, we are committed to connecting older adults, caregivers, and families with programs and services that promote independence, dignity, and well-being.

We are proud to partner with the National Center on Elder Abuse to raise awareness of WEAAD and encourage conversations about elder justice. Together, we can help create communities where older adults are respected, valued, and safe.

GNRC staff recently attended the 3rd Annual Building Community Brunch hosted by Rebuilding Together Nashville.

The event brought together homeowners, partners, and community leaders to celebrate another year of impact and discuss the future of affordable housing in our region.

One of the most effective ways to address housing affordability is by preserving the homes we already have. For the cost of building a single new affordable housing unit, approximately 12 existing homes can be repaired and preserved.

We were honored to join others who are committed to strengthening communities and ensuring every person has access to a safe and healthy home. Thank you to Rebuilding Together Nashville for bringing people together around this important mission!
