Today is HIV Long Term Survivors Day.
We pause to honor the strength, resilience, and lived experience of those who have navigated this virus for decades. One longtime member of our community shared:
"I was diagnosed on August 10th, 1993β¦ If you had told me that I would still be living almost 33 years later, I would never have believed you. Those who live with the virus this long go through unimaginable anxiety, worry and loss and experience a high-level variety of health issuesβ¦
I just wanted you all to know how grateful I am to be a part of Nashville CARES. I wouldn't have survived this long if it weren't for the compassionate, safe, and welcoming feel of CARES." - Aaron M.
His words remind us that what we do matters deeply. Every resource provided, every appointment supported, every moment of stigma-free care helps people not just survive, but continue living full lives.
To all long-term survivors: thank you for your courage, your advocacy, and for trusting us to walk alongside you. Your presence and stories make a real difference.
If you or someone you know needs support, Nashville CARES is here.
