You Have The Power

You Have The Power You Have the Power's mission is to empower those victimized by crime through information, advocacy, and understanding.

YHTP was founded in 1995 by former First Lady of Tennessee Andrea Conte after a personal experience with crime. She saw first-hand the complicated maze of the judicial system that crime victims must navigate and decided to create an organization dedicated to victims rights.

It is with profound sadness that You Have the Power announces the sudden passing of our Chief Executive Officer, Cathy Gurley.

Cathy served as CEO of You Have the Power for 12 years, providing visionary leadership, steady guidance, and an unwavering commitment to the organization’s mission. Since becoming CEO in 2012, Cathy played a pivotal role in expanding the organization’s reach, strengthening its partnerships, and deepening its impact across the Nashville community.

One of Cathy’s most impactful contributions was her leadership in the redevelopment of the Children’s Memory Garden, a memorial dedicated to innocent children lost to violent crime, ensuring it remained a place of dignity, remembrance, and healing for families and the broader community. She also helped launch Voices from the Garden, a publication dedicated to honoring children lost to violence in Davidson County by sharing their stories and preserving their memories.

Cathy was widely respected for her integrity, compassion, and deep sense of responsibility to the communities she served. Her leadership was marked by thoughtfulness, perseverance, and a belief that remembrance, education, and advocacy could lead to meaningful change.

We extend our deepest condolences to Cathy’s family, friends, colleagues, and all who were touched by her life and work. As we grieve this tremendous loss, we also honor Cathy’s legacy by continuing the mission and values she so passionately advanced.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3001 Belmont Blvd., Nashville, TN 37212. Reception immediately following.
