We have reports that the devastating earthquakes have left the city of La Guaira, Venezuela, practically destroyed, with large portions of the state of La Guaira affected by collapsed buildings. Local church members, volunteers, and first responders describe the situation as "very serious and very tense," with countless families displaced. Many people are still trapped beneath the rubble, and the rescue operations are continuing around the clock.
Speaking with local Caracas preacher, Jose Antionio Quinones, he shares, "What we've been through here hasn't been easy. There are so many dead and missing people, and many families are desperate…. Right now in La Guaira, the situation is quite serious and very tense. Many buildings have collapsed, affecting more than seventy percent of the state.”
Regarding the rescue workers and volunteers—“Many of them, including my two sons, are working with their bare hands moving stones and debris. The pharmacies in La Guaira were looted, so supplies aren't readily available...Once the initial 72-hour period passes and the situation stabilizes a bit, we can consider other options. For now, these [water, food, gloves] are the priorities."
Please continue to pray for:
First responders, both those with training as well as volunteers
Emotional toll on the entire community
Availability of food and supplies for those in need
HHI is collecting funds NOW, 100% of which will be going towards the relief and recovery efforts in Venezuela. We are partnering with local churches and Christians to help with immediate relief.
