From Nashville to Guatemala - our friends Soles4Souls are creating opportunity for people through shoes ⭐

Some of our HERO and Nashville Community Connections team traveled to Guatemala recently with our partners at Soles4Souls. We had the privilege of witnessing their work in action on an international scale - from helping distribute shoes to children to seeing how their 4Opportunity program turns gently used shoes into a business model and mentorship.

Experiencing this work firsthand deepened our appreciation for the mission we are a part of here in Nashville through the 4EveryKid initiative, where we distribute thousands of new shoes to students each year.

We spent this special time working alongside other folks from across the country who also support students in unstable housing, building relationships and sharing best practices. Soles4Souls - Thank you for having us on this truly remarkable experience💙

The display supports over 4,000 Metro Public Schools students who face housing instability, with all proceeds benefiting Nashville Community Connections.

What a great first week of the school year supporting HERO students!

Aroet, our HERO program assistant, has been hard at work handling HERO qualifications and everything that comes along with that. Once she approves and processes forms, we start on distribution of backpacks, school clothing and shoes with a team of community partners and volunteers. Thank you for leading the charge, Aroet!

Some highlights of the second full week of school - so many Nashville Community Connections (if you’re not following our nonprofit partner Nashville Community Connections, please do!)

1) Friends from Asurion brought us a new Little Free Library to serve our neighborhood! 2) Annual partners Interstate AC held a team contest and delivered 1,800 lbs. of school supplies 3) We filled our HERO Pantry thanks to friends at Amazon Business' Community Impact Team 4) Unpacking the fantastic results of Bellevue Family YMCA and FiftyForward J.L. Turner Center’s yearly back-to-school drive. On behalf of the students and families we serve, thank you ! 💙🥰

Amazon’s Community Impact team showed up in a BIG way for our HERO students and families this back-to-school season!🏫🎒📚✏️

750 backpacks filled with school supplies were given to our HERO students to start them on the right foot this school year! Alongside a team from Amazon, we hosted a day for students currently living at the Nashville Rescue Mission to shop for new school shoes, pick up their backpacks and tie up any loose ends regarding enrollment or transportation.

Amazon treated everyone to a fun breakfast and Chick-fil-a lunch, and they donated groceries to our HERO pantry to support additional students throughout August.

A huge thank you to Amazon's Community Impact team for making back-to-school season a joyful time for our HERO students💙

Thank you for highlighting our in-school partners, Metro Nashville Public Schools team! We couldn't do the work we do without a strong crew of HERO Contacts - one at each and every MNPS school. These stories are great examples of how it all works.

When students who are struggling with housing enroll in Metro Schools, a team of district employees and school-based staff works hard to support them and their families and make sure they have what they need to succeed in school. Some of the best work happening as a result of the strong partnership between Nashville Community Connections and the MNPS HERO team is being able to encourage and amplify the astoundingly hard work being done by students.

Girl Scouts do s'more than just selling cookies - they are community heroes!

Three dedicated Girl Scouts from Troop #1445 recently completed their Silver Award Project in collaboration with the HERO team. As part of their initiative, they created custom care bags filled with essential items for girls, which were distributed through the program.

We are so proud of these girls for their hard work and dedication to serving their local Nashville community!
