Today is the International Day for Biodiversity, sanctioned by the UN to highlight actionable plans to help restore and protect biodiversity across the globe.
Simply put, biodiversity refers to all of the different species in a given area - no matter how small or large, be it plant, fungi, animal, or any other form of life - and it is extremely important! Biodiversity can clue us in as to the overall health in an ecosystem and has direct effects on our human communities as well.

It’s also super cool to see! Enjoy an assortment of photos from throughout Dillon over the last year highlighting just a tiny fraction of the species found in this region.

Remember, the more biodiversity the better! 😃

It’s National Bond with Your Dog Day!

Dillon offers 50+ miles of trails and 2000+ acres of parkland to enjoy with your furry friends, including an off-leash area just south of the swimming beach.

Seems like stellar reasoning to leash up your four-legged bestie and get to the park!

(Disclaimer: This photo is actually of someone bonding with another’s dog. Which is totally acceptable, too.)

While the park naturalist is out on leave, our awesome volunteers continue to keep the Nature Center open for exploration, learning, and fun!

Of course, there are also thousands of acres of park complete with trails, fishing spots, camping, updated cabins, and so much more for your outdoor needs! Come make the most of it at YOUR State Park!

On this Earth Day, we encourage everyone to step back to see the bigger picture. This is our planet, our home, and ultimately the provider of all things necessary for life (not underselling our sun in its life-giving necessities but the real estate market is a bit too hot there for us humans).
Earth is an open system in which things that occur at any single point on the globe can have far-reaching effects across the entirety of the planet. Water, air, soil, and more all move across this space sphere - that includes pollution of all kinds.
What we do as individuals and as collectives has the power to make a difference - both for good and for bad. There are no physical barriers to stop global processes.

We don’t need to be perfect in our support of overall ecological health; in today’s world, that is likely an impossible task. However, every little (and big!) bit that we do can improve the well-being of our environment - benefiting not only the wild populations, landscapes, waterways, and all the other wonders on Earth - but also our human communities and societies as well.

Pick up that piece of litter. Plant those native wildflowers. Opt for those plastic-free alternatives. Share knowledge about the poisons being poured into our drinking water, into the soil upon which we depend for growing food, and into the air which we so vitally need for drawing into our lungs every moment of every day; about the detriments caused by habitat destruction; about where our water and food comes from; and about how we are all capable of effecting positive change.

Happy Earth Day. Let’s celebrate it *every* day with our words, actions, and commitment to the only habitable planet we have!
