Baseball great Willie Mays died yesterday at the age of 93.

In the mid-1950s, when Lucky Lake Estates in Narrowsburg was being advertised to potential buyers in NYC, Noble Sissle, one of the principal developers, tapped his connections in the sports and entertainment industries.

Sissle gave a 50 x 200 foot parcel to Mays, who in turn lent his name to the Lucky Lake marketing campaign. The parcel was never developed and today remains wooded.

Mays, nicknamed β€œThe Say Hey Kid,” had a professional baseball career that spanned four decades, beginning with the Negro Leagues in the late 1940s and ending with the New York Mets in 1972. In between, he spent 21 years with the New York Giants, who would later move to San Francisco.
