Voices of HOPE Calming Kits for Community

The Voices of HOPE Calming Kits Project will create sensory calming kits for individuals with disabilities in Henry County. These kits will include sensory tools designed to reduce anxiety, support emotional regulation, and improve focus during stressful situations. The kits will be distributed to law enforcement, first responders, local businesses, and other community partners who support individuals served by HOPE Services, as well as made available at HOPE Services community events. This project directly supports inclusion, emotional wellness, and independence. It strengthens community betterment by providing practical tools that improve daily life experiences and help reduce overstimulation in stressful situations.

Many individuals with developmental disabilities experience sensory overload, anxiety, or difficulty self-regulating in community and daily environments. Access to calming tools is limited due to cost and availability. Providing calming kits helps individuals safely manage emotions during high stress situations, remain engaged in community activities, and reduce behavioral distress. This project fills a critical gap in accessible, portable support tools that promote dignity and inclusion.

Expected Outcomes
• Increased self-regulation skills for individuals served
• Reduced anxiety and behavioral distress in community settings
• Improved participation in community and educational activities
• Enhanced independence and confidence for individuals using the kits
• Greater awareness of sensory needs within Henry County

Liberty Center Field Safety Improvement Initiative

The Cherry Street T-Ball Field Safety Fencing Initiative will install new outfield safety fencing to improve the protection of young athletes during practices and games. This project will create clearly defined field boundaries, reducing the risk of injury and improving overall player safety. The league has already been awarded a $500 safety mini-grant, which will be fully applied toward this fencing project. Additional funding will be used to complete the fencing installation materials needed to further enclose the T-ball field. All installation work will be completed through volunteer labor to maximize community support and reduce overall costs.

The T-ball field currently lacks adequate outfield fencing, creating safety concerns for young players, spectators, and nearby activity areas. Without clearly defined boundaries, balls frequently enter unsafe areas, increasing the risk of collisions and injuries. As participation continues to grow, ensuring a safe and structured playing environment has become a priority. Installing fencing will provide a controlled and secure environment that supports early player development while reducing preventable safety risks. This project directly addresses these needs by improving field containment and overall safety. Additionally, enhanced safety and structure will encourage increased use of the T-ball field for both baseball and softball programming, helping to reduce scheduling conflicts and improve overall field availability for all divisions.

This project will significantly improve player safety by establishing a clearly defined and secure playing boundary for the T-ball field. Young athletes will benefit from a safer learning environment that reduces the risk of injury and improves game flow. Families and coaches will have increased confidence in the safety of the facility. The improved field will also allow for greater use of the T-ball area, reducing strain on larger fields and improving scheduling efficiency across the league. Overall, the project will enhance youth recreation opportunities and strengthen community engagement.

Upon grant approval, materials will be ordered within 2–4 weeks. Volunteer planning and site preparation will occur immediately following material delivery. Installation of fencing will be completed by league volunteers within 4–6 weeks of receipt of materials. The entire project will be completed within six months as required by the grant guidelines. The field will be fully operational and safe for use upon completion.
