We are so grateful that nature is an inclusive space!! 🌈

Thank you, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for the beautiful multicolored celebration of diversity - both of humankind and the natural world!

All New Yorkers and visitors should be able to access, enjoy, and feel welcome on state lands. These lands are for all of us, our families, our friends, and our neighbors. While enjoying these shared spaces, be respectful of other visitors. Share trails, treat people with kindness, and leave things as you found them for others to enjoy. 🏳️‍🌈

Geocaching Day is almost here!! We are excited to announce that we will have 13 brand new caches of various levels, which will be released the day of the event (Sunday, June 7th), including:
- Kid friendly caches, some with a prize inside
- Deviously difficult camouflaged micro caches
- A gnome who forgot to migrate away for the summer
- A puzzle cache
- Two multi-step caches
- A geocache in which you will learn about a neat geologic feature
- and more!

The event is free, but be sure to sign up in advance. See you then!

Wondering if that baby animal you found is an orphan? The Finger Lakes Wildlife Hotline is an amazing local resource.

Baby season 2026 is officially in full swing and we’re so glad to be supporting our community through another busy year of wildlife calls!

Between our March 2025 launch and year-end, Finger Lakes Wildlife Hotline fielded well over 1,000 calls. We hit the ground running last season, and while our reporting systems weren’t fully in place until later in the season (we estimate it was likely closer to 2,000 calls), the impact was clear! This resource is needed, and it’s working.

Our goal for 2026 is simple: Grow our network.

We hope to continue expanding across New York by connecting more licensed wildlife rehabilitators to the hotline, so we can better match each caller with someone who can help their specific species, especially when time is of the essence.

To everyone who supported, shared, trusted, and used this resource in 2025, thank you. You helped build something that is truly making a difference!

📲 If we don’t yet have a rehabber connected to our main call-in line for your specific species and location, you can still find help using the online resources on our webpage below.

🫶🏼 If you’re a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in New York, we’d love to have you join our network! Visit our website to learn more and reach out with any questions. Our goal is to build a network that supports one another, because this work is way easier when you have a community behind you.

Here’s to another season of helping wildlife and the people who care enough to step in, both the finders and the rehabbers.

Can you spot the American Globeflower (Trollius laxus)?

Today marks one month after Earth Day, and is also the International Day for Biological Diversity. Here at the CNC, we celebrate the abundant variety of species found at the nature center - including this rare herbaceous perennial, which a staff member noticed a couple of weeks ago. Please note if you come across these in the wild, please appreciate them from afar to give them the best chance they have to grow. Remember the adage - "if you care, leave them there". 😊
