Drowning isn’t like the movies. It’s fast, and it’s silent, happening in the moments when we might least expect it.

This is a stark reminder that vigilance near water is non-negotiable. Whether it’s a pool, a bathtub or the beach, always keep a watchful eye on loved ones, especially children.

Let’s spread awareness and take action to prevent these quiet tragedies.

Being prepared in case of an emergency is a critical layer of protection and knowing how to perform CPR is important.

Here are 5 steps to take if you encounter a person who has had a drowning incident:
1. Assess the Situation: Make sure it’s safe, then check if the person is conscious.
2. Call for Help: Dial emergency services or instruct someone to do so.
3. Check for Breathing: If absent, start CPR.
4. Perform CPR with Rescue Breaths and Chest Compressions.
5. Repeat: Continue the cycle until help arrives.

Remember, this is a simplified overview. Proper training is essential for effective CPR.

Stay informed, stay prepared!

Drowning prevention takes all of us. From supervision to swim skills to safe environments, every layer matters.

Right now, Florida is seeing a troubling rise in child fatalities from drowning. These tragedies are preventable—and together, we can help stop them.

Let’s honor stories like this by taking action:
✅ Stay close, stay alert
✅ Teach water safety and swim skills
✅ Secure pools and water access

The Boys & Girls Club of Collier County team is gearing up for SWIM Central this summer!

Lifeguards and water safety instructors recently took part in a hands-on training, picking up helpful tips from local swim instructor and aquatic resource Alexandria Hernandez.

SWIM Central is a 10-day water safety program made possible by the generous support of the Naples Children Foundation. Since 2012, more than 13,000 kids have taken part in over 107,000 lessons—helping build skills and confidence in the water.

We’re so excited to keep growing this program and help even more Collier County kids stay safe around water! 💙🌊
