Community Initiatives Coordinator
Summary: The Community Initiatives Coordinator is responsible for developing, leading, and overseeing the Museum’s Community Initiatives (Set for School, Shelter Safe Play, Breaking the Barriers, and Teen Intern programs) as well as assisting with selected onsite and outreach programs. This Coordinator is C’mon’s liaison to numerous community partners, and works with them to ensure C’mon meets the needs of all children in Southwest Florida. This is a grant-funded position, renewable annually, currently funded by the Naples Children and Education Foundation, founders of the Naples Winter Wine Festival.
Major Duties
Outreach and Community Programs
•Develops, implements, teaches, and evaluates a variety of interdisciplinary Community Initiatives programs for children ages 3-12 (estimated to be approximately 400 programs per year), based on the Museum’s exhibits. These programs include but are not limited to:
-Set for School- The Set for School Initiative focuses on preparing low-income young children for success in kindergarten through hands-on educational programs onsite and offsite that utilize the ELLM Monthly Themes.
-Shelter Safe Play- The Shelter Safe Play Initiative focuses on meeting the behavioral and social skill needs of children ages birth through twelve living in or receiving treatment from shelters in Collier County through monthly onsite and offsite programs.
-Breaking the Barriers- The Breaking the Barriers Initiative focuses on providing children with disabilities the means to better use the Museum. It also provides time to explore the museum for children who could not attend the Museum during regular hours due to sensory and other issues.
-Teen Intern Program- The Teen Intern Program is an immersive, multi-week internship designed to inspire career exploration and confidence working with the public for teens ages 14-18.
•Acts as the Museum liaison with over 20 partnering community organizations •Acts as C’mon’s representative and develops activities for community outreach programs •Responsible for the Community Initiatives portion of the education budget, maintains outreach program supplies, and orders new supplies as needed
Onsite Programs
•Develops, implements, teaches, and evaluates a variety of interdisciplinary programs as assigned by the Programs Manager
Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in education or related field is required; master’s degree a plus
•Three to five years experience with education program development and/ or teaching
•Experience managing budgets
•Must be outgoing, self-motivated and enjoy working with the public
•Excellent organizational skills
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Ability to work well with others and maintain professional manner using tact, initiative, good judgment and confidentiality
•Ability to work with people of all ages
•Ability to manage several projects at the same time
•Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
•Proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite software, Internet and email
•Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and/or weekends
•Must pass a background check and be fingerprinted
•Must have reliable transportation and clean driving record as this position travels very frequently to partnering sites (mileage reimbursed)
Salary: low 30s
