Public Service: An Honor, a Responsibility, and a Personal Sacrifice. Public service is not easy. It is an honor and a privilege, but it also requires sacrifices, especially when it comes to personal and family time.

Thursday evening, October 22, 2026, was one of those busy evenings with three meaningful community events happening at different locations, all at nearly the same time.

1. Loaves & Fishes Community Services – 5:00 PM

As a member of the Board of Directors for the past five years, it was meaningful to participate in the Nourish Together campaign, a bold new vision to end hunger and transform lives. Supporting this mission is a reminder of the importance of serving our neighbors with compassion and dignity.

🚒 2. Naperville Fire Department – CAPS Awards Ceremony

It was wonderful to attend the Citizens Appreciate Public Safety (CAPS) Awards Ceremony and witness the recognition of our dedicated fire department personnel. Their commitment, courage, and service to our community deserve our deepest appreciation.

🤝 3. United for Peace – Naperville Interfaith Leaders Association

Although I arrived a little late after attending the other events, I was grateful to join this important community conversation on hate crimes and the foiled mass shooting plot targeting a Hindu temple in Aurora. Hearing from law enforcement, interfaith leaders, and elected representatives reinforced the importance of standing together against hate, violence, and extremism.

Three important events. Three different locations. One shared purpose — serving our community and making it safer, stronger, and more compassionate for everyone.

Public service often means making difficult choices with limited time, but these moments remind me why community service matters. I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Naperville.

Together, let’s build a community rooted in compassion, public safety, mutual respect, and peace.

Naperville Celebrates the Dedication of the Third Edition of “The Printed Word” Mural

The City of Naperville celebrated the dedication of the Third Edition of The Printed Word mural at Naper Settlement, honoring the legacy of Timm Etters and congratulating artist Dodie Mondero on bringing this historic public artwork to life.

Originally created in 1996, the mural celebrates the people and pioneers who helped shape Naperville’s printing and publishing history. Recreated in 2026 with support from Century Walk Corporation and SECA funding, the mural has found a permanent home at Naper Settlement.

Congratulations to Brand Bobosky for helping celebrate this wonderful part of our community.

This dedication also marks a milestone for Century Walk, concluding 30 years of enriching Naperville through public art. Congratulations to everyone who helped preserve our community’s history, creativity, and cultural heritage for future generations!

The site has been redesigned to make it easier for visitors to find information, resources and services quickly. Built-in accessibility tools also enhance the experience for individuals using assistive technology.

It was my honor to represent the City of Naperville as Mayor Pro Tem and recognize the 70th Anniversary of the AAUW Naperville Area Branch.

For seven decades, AAUW has championed women’s empowerment, educational opportunities, gender equity, and community service. Since 1971, the organization has awarded over $175,000 in scholarships, helping students pursue their dreams.

Congratulations to AAUW Naperville and its dedicated members on this remarkable milestone. Thank you for empowering women and girls and building a stronger, more equitable community!

Dear Community,

Behind every City Council meeting is a great deal of preparation, discussion, and collaboration. As Councilmembers, we regularly meet with City Manager Doug Krieger and Deputy City Manager Pam Gallahue to review city updates, discuss agenda items, and address issues that matter to Naperville and our residents.

Councilman Ian and I also take time to exchange ideas, brainstorm solutions, and carefully consider the potential impact of important decisions.

Naperville follows the Council-Manager form of government, where the Mayor and Councilmembers serve as elected representatives, each with an equal vote, setting the City’s strategic direction and providing oversight, while professional staff manages day-to-day operations.

During our meeting today, Interim Finance Director Traci Marrocco briefed us on matters related to the FY 2027 budget. These behind-the-scenes conversations are an important part of responsible governance, transparency, and making informed decisions in the best interests of our community. Serving Naperville means doing the work before, during, and after every Council meeting.

I was pleased to join the ribbon-cutting celebration at Teeth & Beauty, a woman-owned, locally operated dental and aesthetics practice in Naperville.

Led by Dr. Kristina Stuedemann, Teeth & Beauty celebrates a milestone of hard work, dedication, and entrepreneurial spirit. The practice brings together dental care and aesthetic services, embracing the philosophy of “Smile Care Meets Self Care.”

As a community, we are proud to support local entrepreneurs who bring innovative services, create meaningful connections, and contribute to Naperville’s vibrant small-business community.

Celebrating the Opening of Kingdom West Montessori in Naperville!

It was a pleasure to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Kingdom West Montessori on Wednesday, October 14, celebrating the opening of this new school.

Kingdom West Montessori is the only Christian Montessori school in the western suburbs and offers a unique educational approach that incorporates classical education beginning in Grade 3.

Congratulations to Head of School Taylor Fleurissaint, Board President Mark Nathan, and the entire team on this exciting milestone!

Expanding Housing Opportunities for Our Community

Every community deserves opportunities to find a home, put down roots, and raise a family in Naperville.

A new 262-unit townhome development is being proposed for the site of the previously rejected data center project. This proposal presents an opportunity to explore additional housing options for families and individuals looking to make Naperville their home.

As our city continues to grow, it is important to thoughtfully balance responsible development, housing opportunities, neighborhood character, infrastructure, and the long-term needs of our residents.

Our focus should always be on building a community where families can thrive and future generations can proudly call Naperville home.
