This weekโ€™s Meet Our Staff feature is all about Tami Nixon, founder and owner of Makai Swim School.
Tamiโ€™s story started in the waters of Hawaiสปi and has grown into more than 50 years of teaching, mentoring, and helping swimmers build confidence in and around the water. She began teaching swim lessons through the American Red Cross at just 12 years old and later became an Aquatics Pool Director before bringing her passion to Napa Valley.
In 1989, Tami opened Makai Swim School as Napaโ€™s first private swim school. Today, Makai serves thousands of families each year while continuing to focus on what has always mattered most: meeting each swimmer where they are and helping them grow with confidence.
From swim instruction and Montessori education to dance, Pilates, and child development, Tami has spent decades building the unique teaching philosophy that continues to shape Makai today.
Her impact reaches far beyond the pool, and weโ€™re so grateful for the knowledge, care, creativity, and leadership she brings to our Makai Ohana every single day. ๐ŸŒบ

The Summer Trade Book is now open! โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ
One of the biggest changes this year is that each swim session now has its own dedicated Trade Book.
That means Summer Session trades can only be used during the Summer Session, from May 25 through August 8. Trades will no longer carry between Spring, Summer, and Fall sessions.
This change helps keep scheduling organized and gives families a clearer view of available trade opportunities within each session.
Planning a vacation, camp, or summer adventure? Be sure to post your trade as early as possible for the best chance of finding a match. ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Our Fast Track Swim Classes are designed for swimmers who want to build skills quickly over a focused two-week session. Perfect for summer schedules, upcoming vacations, or swimmers needing an extra confidence boost in the water.
Each session includes:
๐ŸŠ 8 private 20-minute lessons
๐Ÿ“… Mondayโ€“Thursday for two consecutive weeks
โฐ Afternoon lesson times between 3โ€“7pm
Semi-private options may also be available for siblings or friends with similar ages and swim abilities.

A moment to slow down and reset ๐ŸŒŠ
Our Aqua Motion float day was a beautiful experience of calm, connection, and relaxation in the water.
Supported by gentle movement and immersive sound, participants were able to fully unwind and enjoy the stillness that water can offer.
