We’ve been getting lots of calls about cockroaches, so we wanted to share some info. This is definitely the time of year when they seem to multiply rapidly, and we understand the reaction to them! Cockroaches will live anywhere with a source of water and food, so they are often found in homes, landscaping, sewer pipes, storm drains, crawl spaces, water meter and irrigation boxes, and floor drains- as well as the sanitary sewer. So, while we can treat the manholes in neighborhoods, there are lots of other places where they are living and coming from so it typically doesn't fix the whole problem. If NapaSan staff sees cockroaches in the sanitary sewer system or gets a call from a resident who has seen them around a manhole, we will inspect the sewer lines in the area and apply boric acid powder to the areas where the insects are present, so we are treating them if we come across them- we’ve seen messaging on Nextdoor and other places that says we no longer do that, but we do if we see an issue.
