At last nights weekly drill, members of 𝐍𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 utilized the departments roof prop. They learned how to safely start, carry, and operate various saws. They also learned the importance of venting during a fire. If you would like learn and help your fellow community members, stop by the firehouse on Monday evenings at 7pm

At this week’s drill members of 𝐍𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 had conducted car fire training, learning how to properly approach a vehicle safely and extinguish it. Want to learn more and assist the community you live in, stop by the fire house on Monday evenings at 7pm.

At last nights weekly drill, members went over vehicle extrication. Members learned safe and effective techniques on extricating a victim from a vehicle. If you want to learn as well, stop by the 𝐍𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 on any Monday night at 7pm, 29 Old Middletown Rd.

This evening during our monthly meeting, local Nanuet Girl Scout troop 40416, was gracious enough to donate various Girl Scout cookies to the fire department. It is greatly appreciated and does not go unnoticed. THANK YOU.

The Nanuet Fire Department wants to wish everyone a very happy, fun, and safe Independence Day! While we all love a great light show, fireworks can be incredibly dangerous if not handled properly.

To keep your family, friends, and property safe this holiday, please keep these essential safety tips in mind:

1. Leave the big shows to the professionals. Ensure any sparklers or novelties you use are legal in our area, and never try to buy or use professional-grade fireworks.

2. Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks. Even sparklers burn at hot enough temperatures (about 1200°F / 650°C) to melt copper and cause severe burns.

3. Always light fireworks outdoors in a clear, open area away from houses, dry grass, and flammable materials. Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose close by just in case.

4. Light fireworks one at a time, and immediately move back to a safe distance.

5. If a firework doesn't go off, do not examine it or try to relight it. Wait 20 minutes, then soak it in a bucket of water.

6. Submerge all used fireworks and sparklers in a bucket of water for several hours before discarding them in the trash to prevent garbage fires.

7. Loud noises can terrify animals. Keep your pets indoors in a safe, quiet room to prevent them from panicking or running away.

In case of a fire starts or someone is injured, call 911 immediately.
