Be aware there is a male calling people saying he is a Deputy with the Nanticoke Police Department and they have missed Jury duty. He tells them they now owe a fine and must go to Walmart or Dollar General and make a payment. THIS IS A SCAM!! DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY!! If you receive such a call please call 570-819-4916 and report it to police.

Date: 07/16/2026 0414 Hrs.
Type: Swatting incident

Nanticoke Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of South Prospect Street for what was reported to be a male who had shot both of his children and was spreading gasoline around the home and light the home on fire. On arrival officers did not observe any such activity and spoke with the residents of the home. All residents within the home were sleeping and did not know of where or how this report to 911 was made. Nanticoke Police are currently investigating the source of the call.

The Nanticoke City Police Department along with the PA Game Commission recently investigated an incident of a groundhog which was under a parked vehicle attacked a juvenile in the 300 block of East Church Street. This groundhog was confirmed to be rabid. This post is to inform the public not to approach wild animals, and to protect your pets from them.

Rep. Alec Ryncavage is hosting a dog licensing event at his office.
The PA State Dog Warden will be in Nanticoke during the month of April actively checking dogs for licenses.
