Deputy Gerald Smith has recently retired from a long career in law enforcement. He started his full time career at the Constables Office in 2004. Gerald and I served as Deputy Constables together for several years. When I became Constable in 2008 Gerald was my first deputy and he helped me navigate into my new position. We shared a lot of ups and downs together through the years. I always knew Gerald had my back in whatever decisions I made. I couldn’t have asked for a more loyal deputy. We were more than co workers, we were (and still are) good friends. The last few years of Gerald’s career he served as the law enforcement officer for the county road and bridge department. A total of almost 22 years of service to Nacogdoches County. While I hate to see Gerald move on into the next chapter in life I do wish him well and good health in his retirement.

I would like to introduce our newest deputy, Logan Finch. Deputy Finch is no stranger to law enforcement in this county. He retired from the Nacogdoches Police Dept. in 2024 with 24 years of service. Prior to joining our office he was an officer with the Angelina College Police Dept. for about 1 1/2 years. We are excited to have Deputy Finch a part of our office and glad to have him back working within our community.

One of Nacogdoches County’s long time peace officers has retired. Chuck Copeland served several terms as the elected Constable in Pct 4. He also served as the Road and Bridge law enforcement officer for many years. Most recently he served this county as a reserve deputy for Constable Pct 1. A total of 34 years of dedicated service to Nacogdoches County. We wish him happiness and good health in his retirement.

Today I had the privilege of being sworn in again by Judge Greg Sowell as Constable Pct 1. Today starts the 17th year that I have been fortunate enough to serve as your elected Constable. Thank you to everyone who stands with me in this journey. A special thank you to my wife,Sharon, who I depend on daily.

Burn ban has been lifted !!

On Monday, Nacogdoches County commissioners lifted the burn ban enacted on October 15.

FYI Burn Ban for Nacogdoches County

Nacogdoches County Commissioners issued a burn ban during Tuesday's regularly scheduled meeting. The ban prohibits outdoor burning in unincorporated parts of the county for 90 days unless lifted sooner.
The ban does NOT apply to outdoor cooking provided the grill or smoker is placed on a concrete, gravel or dirt surface at least 5 feet away from any combustible materials.
Violations of the ban are a Class-C misdemeanor.

I wanted to let everyone know that today was the last official day for Deputy George to be a part of our office. Deputy George has accepted a position in another county. He has been extremely valuable member of the department over the past 6 years. While we wish him well in his new adventure we sure do hate to see him go. Good luck Deputy George !!

UPDATE
***The dogs owner has been located***

Anyone recognize these two dogs ? They were found running in and out of traffic in the 9200 block of Hwy 259 and were nearly hit by several vehicles. We have tried to locate the owner but have been unsuccessful. They belong to someone, they appear to have been well taken care of. We even took them to a local vet to see if they were chipped and neither were. In order to keep them safe until the owner is located they have been taken to the Nacogdoches animal shelter.

Just a reminder for people traveling Hwy 259, tomorrow (10-19-2023) the red light at the intersection of Hwy 259 and FM 698 will become operational. Please slow down and use caution when approaching this intersection.
