Sheriff Jeff Bergeron reports that on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at approximately 8:20 a.m., a WBRSO Criminal Patrol deputy conducted a traffic stop on a commercial box truck traveling westbound on I-10 for observed traffic violations.

During the stop, the deputy determined that the driver, 25-year-old Ameer Nassar of Houston, Texas, was wanted by the Pennsylvania State Police in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred in Bethel Township, Pennsylvania on Friday, April 10, 2026. The vehicle he was operating at the time of the stop was also identified as being involved in the incident.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Nassar struck and killed a 33-year-old man who had pulled his tractor-trailer onto the shoulder and was outside adjusting straps at the time of the crash.

Nassar was taken into custody and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriffโ€™s Office as a fugitive. He has since been transferred to the custody of the Pennsylvania State Police.

Frystown Fire Adds Rescue Engine to Bethel Township

Last year Frystown Fire placed brand new state-of-the-art Genesis Rescue Tools in service, advancing our rescue capabilities to match the advancement of modern vehicle construction. After being put into service there was discussion on our next advancement in capability with the focus on apparatus upgrades. Several discussions were held on different options including rechassis. After months of discussion and searching for the best option, an opportunity arose, one that leads us to today.

Introducing Rescue Engine 53. A 2006 Spartan Rosenbauer with a 1500gpm pump, 750gal water tank, and 30gal Foam cell w/CAFs. The spacious cab seats four firefighters with medical cabinets inside. The Rescue body doubles our current equipment storage capacity and opens the opportunity for Frystown to pursue higher PA State Rescue certification. More importantly for our community, this new apparatus doubles our crew capacity, brings Rescue and Firefighting capacity in a single vehicle, and is large enough to protect our firefighters and patients on I78. The Rescue Engine will primarily operate as the initial Rescue on accidents while our E-One Engine will be first out on fires.

This acquisition underscores Frystown Fires continuing mission to provide ever advancing volunteer services to our community. The support we recieve goes directly back into protecting our community. We cannot thank you all for that support. We plan to continue to advance and upgrade our training and equipment to maximize the value of our services provided. We project to have the RE in service by late February after tool mounting and driver/pump training.

Quick Facts
- Apparatus previously served in Holland, Michigan for the Graafschap Fire Company
- RE53 brings twice the manpower and introduces Compressed Air Foam system to the toolbox
